Billy has long dreamt of owning not one, but two dogs. So when he’s finally able to save up enough money for two pups to call his own—Old Dan and Little Ann—he’s ecstatic. Soon Billy and his hounds become the finest hunting team in the valley. Stories of their great achievements spread, and the combination of Old Dan’s brawn, Little Ann’s brains, and Billy’s sheer will seems unbeatable. But tragedy waits for these determined friends. In time, Billy will learn that hope can grow out of despair and that the seeds of the future can come from the scars of the past.

WILSON RAWLS spent his youth in the heart of the Cherokee nation, prowling the hills and river bottoms with his only companion, an old bluetick hound. Since its publication in 1961, WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS has become a classic story enjoyed by generations of young readers. Rawls’s second work, Summer of the Monkeys, also received rave reviews and won the prestigious California Young Reader Medal Award, among other accolades.

What a lovely new edition! Is it bad that I’m tearing up just thinking about this book? I’m not sure I could read it now… I cried when a best friend died in a very popular vampire book series.
