Audiobook Review: Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard

Bloodwitch is the 3rd and a half book in the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard. I loved this series as it is so different than your other elemental fantasise and the writing is so unique. So check out my thoughts below and I hope you check out this series, if you haven’t yet!

Thank you to Tor Teen and Macmillian Audio for the opportunity to read and review this title, which in no way influences my thoughts and support for this book and series.

Review

Is it wrong to say that Bloodwitch is my favorite book in the series so far? There is just so much going on in this book, and I loved getting so many insights into the world of the Witchlands. Everything is amped up. So if you enjoy detailed world building, unique magic, unforgettable characters, and a world full of mystery, I highly recommend The Witchlands series.

Let me start off with saying that this may be billed as book 3, but if you don’t read Sightwitch, the novella that came out before Bloodwitch, you will be sorry, and have to go back and read it anyway. So if you are reading this series, the novella is not to be missed.

Now with that out of the way, this book is clearly Aeduan’s story, each book kind of features one POV more than the others, but we still get into the POVs of other characters. I love seeing similar events unfold through different characters eyes. BUT let’s be real; getting more into Aeduan’s head, past, and thoughts was an absolute delight. He is the dark, brooding, tough guy, that might just have a gooey center. Even though he has no idea those feelings even exist inside him until someone accidentally coaxes them out of him…kind of.

Iesult and Owl have so much more for us in this installment. We also learn so much more about Safiya, Vivia, and even a bit more about Merrick. So much happens in this book and there is so much more to come! I am so excited.

Not only is The Witchlands a masterpiece in world building, character creation, but also it is a stunning representation of detailed action. When I was listening to Bloodwitch, I literally could see the action unfolding in my mind. It was so exceptionally written that I was breathless after some scenes.

The audiobook was perfect. I really was whisked away into the story, and I found myself completely immersed. I am a huge fan of audiobooks, they help me read faster, and build emotion and scenery, just from the narrators skill.

This book was painful. My emotions are shredded. That wild ending…oh my heart, but I trust in Sooz, that’s my motto. I know she has a plan and I am along for the ride. If you are into fantasy with the most unique magic, mystery, war, and of course love, I think the Witchlands is a series you should read, and then we can discuss it together!
