The follow-up to When Dimple Met Rishi and There’s Something about Sweetie follows Pinky and Samir as they pretend to date—with disastrous and hilarious results.

Pinky Kumar wears the social justice warrior badge with pride. From raccoon hospitals to persecuted rock stars, no cause is too esoteric for her to champion. But a teeny-tiny part of her also really enjoys making her conservative, buttoned-up corporate lawyer parents cringe.

Samir Jha might have a few . . . quirks remaining from the time he had to take care of his sick mother, like the endless lists he makes in his planner and the way he schedules every minute of every day, but those are good things. They make life predictable and steady.

Pinky loves lazy summers at her parents’ Cape Cod lake house, but after listening to them harangue her about the poor decisions (aka boyfriends) she’s made, she hatches a plan. Get her sorta-friend-sorta-enemy, Samir—who is a total Harvard-bound Mama’s boy—to pose as her perfect boyfriend for the summer. As they bicker their way through lighthouses and butterfly habitats, sparks fly, and they both realize this will be a summer they'll never forget.

Review

I am a recent convert to Menon’s books, starting with Of Kisses and Curses and naturally binging her back list. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait for Pinky to come out! 10 Things I Hate About Pinky has all the humor and romance of the previous books in The Dimple-Verse!

I enjoyed how each book has its own love story while keeping us entwined in the same universe with previous characters making cameos. The dual perspectives in the Dimple-Verse books give us a great view into the whole story and not just a one-sided view, which made me much more invested into the stories.

Pinky is a one woman world savior, who will reform the world as a power house proactive feminist who will do anything from saving an opossum. She makes Go Fund Me pages and takes marketing photos for good causes, from saving a butterfly habitat to financially focused business women.

Samir is the type of tight laced high school student who has his whole life planned, including a summer law internship. Someone like Pinky definitely doesn’t fit into his view of how his life should go.

So how are they going to spend a whole summer together? I don’t know about you but I am not a huge love at first sight type of reader, I tend to favor a enemies to lovers scenario, so of course a frenemies faking a relationship intrigued me.

One of the best parts of the book is how we get to jump into Pinky’s current summer, which brings all the memories of past summers at her parent’s lake house and all the touchstones she loves, which she gets to share with Samir.

It was interesting to see Pinky come to understand and believe that she can be self-empowered while opening her eyes to how being so overbearing doesn’t give space those around her to show her support. I loved how Samir was able to break through Pinky’s shield and show her support while getting her to see she strained relationship with her parents. Likewise, Pinky pushes Samir to his limits and forces him to face how he can’t control his whole life; that things will happen beyond what he writes into his planner.

There were a lot of laughs, and a lot of aww moments that made me just adore this book, just like the previous Dimple-Verse stories had. I really hope this is not our last view into the Dimple-Verse and that we will get some more in the future.
