Blog Tour & Book Look: I Was A Teenage Death God by MJ Beasi

Some teens feel like they’re too much.

Too angry.
Too sensitive.
Too queer.
Too loud.
Too strange.

In I Was a Teenage Death God, that “too much” becomes something cosmic.

This novel follows a teen who isn’t just overwhelmed by grief, identity, and loneliness; he’s literally burning with it. The book blends surreal horror with deeply personal emotion, turning heartbreak into fire and alienation into something mythic. Ghosts hover. Feelings combust. The world tilts slightly off its axis.

It feels exactly like being a teenager. Check out our book look below and pick up I Was a Teenage Death God, out tomorrow!

Seventeen-year-old Charlie can’t touch anyone without stealing bits of their life away, which would be enough of a curse without Lou—a ghost—forcing them to steal that life for her own use.

Lou has kept Charlie in line for years by threatening to take life directly from their twin sister, Sam. But when Lou goes after their friend and secret crush Ravi, Charlie refuses, and Lou makes good on her threat.

As Sam’s health rapidly declines, Ravi discovers that Charlie may not be the only person born with their unusual power. The trio embark on a weekend road trip to meet a pair of self-proclaimed “Death Gods” who may be the key to saving Sam and understanding Charlie’s abilities . . . . But with all roads leading back to Lou, Charlie is forced to face a dark legacy—one that calls their humanity into question.

Book Look

I went with denim and rainbow Chucks for this one.

The book is loud (neon flames, ghosts, big feelings) so I didn’t want the outfit to compete with it. The chambray keeps it grounded. The lace underneath adds a little softness because for all the supernatural chaos, this story is really about vulnerability.

It’s messy and emotional and a little unhinged in the way being a teenager can be. The rainbow sneakers just felt right. There’s queerness here, but also defiance. It’s not muted. It doesn’t try to be.

This book glows. I wanted the look to let it.
