My Journey on the Bike

In November 2017, Deb (one of my favorite instructors) hit me up after class and said, “how do you feel about the cycle bike?”

My eyes opened wide, and I coughed – “Um, I don’t cycle. Period.”

It was true – I refused to hop on a bike, stationary or otherwise. I was barely running at that point; all of my cardio was dance-based. But I loved Deb so much I was willing to try this class on a stationary bike.

First class on a stationary bike – and last class in regular shoes!

But wait – don’t you teach a class on a bike?

Yes, I loved it so much I kept coming back.

And got me some proper cycle shoes

For almost a year, I took SPRINT – a HIIT class using the bike as a tool – 3x a week. I loved it so much I began teaching it and now have my very own Wednesday night class. It’s my favorite night of the week and I love being with my cheetahs!

Chris (the husband) actually liked SPRINT so we talked about getting road bikes for his birthday last September. I had considered triathlon training for 2019 so a bike was a perfect addition.

I haven’t named her yet but I plan to. Any suggestions?

I did take up triathlon this year and so did my running partner. Her husband also became active so now we go out riding on a weekly basis.

It’s not called a journey for nothing. I am still working on becoming comfortable riding my bike, especially on tight turns or rugged terrain. I am learning the lingo and best technique – preparing for my first triathlon in 19 days!

I wish I had the opportunity when I was young to get into the sports I am now fully committed to. That is why Shred Girls is so important in this world – give youth the inspiration to get out there and shred!
