Comic Crush Saturday: Pride 2025 Edition
It’s Comic Crush Saturday and this week we’re queering the page and the screen with graphic novels, webtoons-turned-graphic-novels, and Marvel moments that pack a punch. Whether you’re here for the gay yearning, the emotional catharsis, or the highnstakes heroics, we’ve got you covered.
PRIDE PICKS: Graphic Novels We’re Crushing On
- Boyfriends by Refrainbow – A polyam, pastel colored whirlwind of queer joy. Come for the slice of life charm, stay for the lovable chaos and representation we wish we had in high school. Volume 4 just released and I can’t wait to catch up!
- Daybreak by Moosopp – Cozy, sweet, and painfully adorable, this slice of life romance is about two clueless high school boys trying to figure out their feelings (and sometimes, how to function socially). Fans of Heartstopper and Bloom, this slow-burn will have you giggling and swooning in equal measure.
- Go-Man Vol. 1 by Hamish Steele – Tobi wants to be a hero like his dad, but being the superpowered Go-Man means masking who he really is. Beneath the flashy action, this is a deeply personal story about growing up autistic, learning to unmask, and realizing you don’t need to save the world to be worthy of love. From the creator of DeadEndia, Hamish Steele pours his heart into every page, and it shows.
- Absolutely Everything by Damian Alexander – Life is a lot for Marcella. Sixth grade, drifting friendships, distracted thoughts, and maybe a move? Damian Alexander explores growing up with ADHD, navigating change, and figuring out what makes you…you. We are excited for a new book from Damian!
- You and Me on Repeat by Mary Shyne – Groundhog Day meets Pumpkinheads in this fun debut. Former best friends Chris and Alicia are stuck reliving high school graduation day, and while Chris thinks the key to escaping is a perfect kiss with his crush, Alicia’s not so sure. Smart, hilarious, and full of second chances (and second, third, fiftieth loops), this one’s got the charm of a classic teen romcom with a queer twist.
A Marvel-ous Summer
Pride might be in full swing on the page, but the screen is giving us some emotional arcs too. From teen tech genius Riri Williams to emotionally damaged antiheroes (including our aroace queen, Yelena) and the long-awaited rise of Marvel’s First Family, this summer’s Marvel entries are leaning harder than ever into identity, legacy, and what it really means to be a hero.
Ironheart Episode 1: Smart, Bold, and Already Breaking the Mold
Riri Williams makes a powerful debut in a series that’s clearly interested in doing more than just flying high. This first episode is grounded in grief, legacy, and identity, offering a refreshingly intimate look at what it means to build your own suit of armor, figuratively and literally. Bonus points for letting Riri’s brilliance shine without over-explaining it, and for making her perfectly human while letting her figure it out.
Thunderbolts: The Marvel Movie That’s Actually About Trauma?
We didn’t expect Marvel’s messiest antiheroes to bring the most emotionally nuanced script we’ve seen in years but here we are. Thunderbolts explores moral injury, therapy (yes, actual therapy!), and what it means to recover from being a weapon. Unlike most team ups, this one sits in its discomfort…and that’s what makes it work. If you’ve ever been sad in a utility vest while saving the world (haven’t we all?), this movie is for you.
Fantastic 4 Incoming: The Hype Is Real
Retro aesthetics. Sci-fi weirdness. FOUND FAMILY. Say less. I’ve been catching up on the F4 with Ryan North’s recent story and to say I am excited about the movie is an understatement.

Boys, sweet boys!
Boyfriends. is the polyamorous story of a jock, a nerd, a prep, and a goth who are learning to love one another and make a four-person relationship work in their own sweet way. Through navigating the adventures of dating life, the boyfriends come to understand themselves and each other better.
The boys have just taken a huge step: moving in together! This means some major milestones for the polycule, like learning how to share a space, cooking for one another, and finding a dream couch that will fit all four of them. As their polyam relationship matures, the guys also work through some insecurities, evolve their understandings of gender, and learn about expressing and accepting love.
There’s always plenty of space for joy when the boyfriends are together though, from cuddling, to gaming, to anime conventions, to competing to be the ultimate malewife.
Laugh-out-loud funny and always heartwarming, Boyfriends. is filled to the brim with moments of pride big and small.
Collects episodes 149–200 of the delightful WEBTOON comic Boyfriends.
