Book Rewind Review: Conceal Don’t Feel By Jen Calonita (Disney Twisted Tales Originals Series)

What if the childhood stories you know and love went against the standard narrative you are used to? As a kid (and adult!) who loved Disney, I now love reading those same heroes and villains in retellings and novels inspired by the original material. The Disney Twisted Tales Series are those familiar stories, told retelling style, and generally highlight an alternate beginning, end, or dual storyline to bring some of the secondary characters into vital roles in the stories. Check out my ongoing series review to get caught up!

Review

What is Anna and Elsa did not grow up together?

Who would save Elsa, would Anna be the Heroine?

While reading this book I mentally retitled this book Finding Anna. For those who have seen the Disney movie Frozen we all know the story of how Elsa and Anna’s parents kept Elsa’s frost magic a secret from Anna once they had a magic accident which could have turned out horribly for Anna. This story is a spin off the Frozen Movie where their parents took separating them even further where instead of the girls growing up in alternate ends of the castle they had their memories of each other completely wiped which causes them to ultimately have to find their way back to each other as they are as always each other’s salvation.

This story did not deviate from the original story as much as I thought it would which just shows how much the story is about the sisters and their love and how that is truly their driving force. Of course there was the side characters: Prince Hans, Olaf and the Duke of Weaseltown (oops um Wesseltown), they were just utilized in the story in different ways.

One of the best parts of the story was the way you got to view the Queen (Mom) a bit differently through each girls eyes which did of course made me tear up a bit more when the inevitable happens for the family.
