Author Interview & Giveaway: Ashley Poston at #SDCC
Ashley Poston was a must meet at #SDCC, and by must meet I mean find and fangirl over obsessively. Kelly and I LOVED Geekerella for it’s unique take as a retelling amongst other things. Lucky for me, Ashley let me pick her brain. I had a blast interviewing her at the Quirk Books booth and can’t wait for you all to see how the heck she keeps writing two different series separate!

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad’s old costume, Elle’s determined to win – unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons – before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake – until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?
Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Seventeen-year-old Ana is a scoundrel by nurture and an outlaw by nature. Found as a child drifting through space with a sentient android called D09, Ana was saved by a fearsome space captain and the grizzled crew she now calls family. But D09—one of the last remaining illegal Metals—has been glitching, and Ana will stop at nothing to find a way to fix him.
Ana’s desperate effort to save D09 leads her on a quest to steal the coordinates to a lost ship that could offer all the answers. But at the last moment, a spoiled Ironblood boy beats Ana to her prize. He has his own reasons for taking the coordinates, and he doesn’t care what he’ll sacrifice to keep them.
When everything goes wrong, she and the Ironblood end up as fugitives on the run. Now their entire kingdom is after them—and the coordinates—and not everyone wants them captured alive.
What they find in a lost corner of the universe will change all their lives—and unearth dangerous secrets. But when a darkness from Ana’s past returns, she must face an impossible choice: does she protect a kingdom that wants her dead or save the Metal boy she loves?

What makes me proud to be a geek is the community. Geeks are creative and passionate in their interest, it is a unique and fun community to be apart of.
I loved the interview! I read Geekerella as an ARC before it came out and I adored it! I even turned my daughter’s Barbie food truck into The Magic Pumpkin and cosplayed her Barbies as Elle and Sage. And oh my love for Sage! Her romance was the best of the story! I need a Safe spinoff! I loved Darien as well but it’s no surprise that the girls are what really shine in this one! It’s just an amazing story that I still fangirl over! And now I want to reread it! I’m eager to devour more of Ash Poston’s writing so Heart of Iron is high up there for me. I loved getting to learn more about her and what she has to come book-wise. Also- I loved y’all’s outfits!
What makes me a proud geek is that I’m still in the band and always have my nose in a book.
I love being a proud geek, books and music, and of course Buffy stuff! Yas!
I love to be a geek! It’s just so much fun to geek about stuff in the community in ways you sometimes can’t in other surroundings!
That was such a fun interview! It’s so cool that she got into publishing through her skills in graphic design for book covers.
“Tell us what makes you a proud geek!” If liking good stuff makes me a geek, then call me a geek!
