Review
[book rating=4/5]You first meet Samantha West in book one of the wildly popular A Little Too Far series after her heart is unceremoniously broken by Trent her boyfriend and Lexie her best friend. I had wondered if Samantha would get her HEA that was why I was ecstatic to find she would be appearing in a stand alone novel. I should note you really don’t need to have read either book in the series to follow this one (but really why deprive yourself?)
Samantha is having a bit of bad luck, which is how she ends up dancing at a Gentleman’s club. It is here she meets the mysterious Harrison Yates and to use the phrase “sparks fly” would be a gross understatement. There were some scenes that were so hot they should have called the book A Little Too Surface of the Sun. The connection and chemistry between Harrison and Samantha was immediate and electric. However, Harrison is not who he seems (sorry not gonna divulge any further because where would the fun in that be) suffice to say Samantha’s world is turned upside down from her chance steamy encounter with the enigmatic Yates.
From here the story completely changes and turns into a bit of a suspense story, well I mean a romantic suspense story. Samantha has to deal with new found information about Harrison that quite literally puts her life in danger.
From here on is where I had issues with the story, I felt that that first half was steamy and kind of erotic but the second half was more about delayed gratification. And I mean it was delayed! I love when attraction builds to a crescendo but I just felt that there was a bit too much delay to the detriment of the story.
Harrison and Samantha were a super sexy couple, I really wanted them to just stop being in their own heads and just give in to the passion, that I as the reader, was literally screaming for them to give in to. I can’t get into details but due to circumstances that both characters were in it led itself to some redundant scenes that I felt took away from the overall story.
Still, I gotta say that Harrison and Samantha stole my heart and are my favorite couple of the series so far. The story was quite different from what we’ve seen in the series so far and I think that it will definitely surprise and delight fans.
