What would you do if someone you loved disappeared, and you were the only person in the world who remembered they existed?

I think about what I would do in that situation and I just don’t know. The grief of losing someone is one thing. The specific horror of losing someone and then being told by every person around you that there is nothing to grieve, that the loss itself is not real, that you are the problem…that is something else. That is the kind of thing that could break a person.

Or maybe make them into someone who cannot be broken by anything else.

Zahara became a professional ballerina. She created a life that required total discipline and total control of her own body, her own story, the only narrative she had left that no one could take away from her, which tells you everything you need to know about who she is and why this story hurts.
