Books On Our Radar: World After (Penryn & the End of Days #2) by Susan Ee

worldafterIn March of last year (prior to the start of this blog) I came across Angelfall by Susan Ee. It was one I had sitting on my TBR list forever and ended up being what I have dubbed a sleeper book. Meaning, you have no expectations for a book and it literally jumps up and bites you on the nose with how amazing it is. Luckily, I was in a phase where I was only reading angel centric books or I may have missed this diamond in the rough. Believe me when I say this was a jaw-dropping epic read. That was why it was AGONY that nothing was released about the sequel to this phenom of a book. I constantly scoured for any news on a release date and was delighted when the cover and title was finally revealed. The only problem? World After is not expected to be released until November 19, 2013! No matter though, I will be patient because I can guarantee the payoff will be worth it. Pre-Order your copy here and if you haven’t read Angelfall pick up your copy here.

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what’s left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)Angelfall by Susan Ee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, Wow, WOW! I don’t even know where to begin. I started this book yesterday and have been unable to put it down. I had it on my to read list for awhile and finally gave it a whirl and I could kick myself for having not read it sooner. From the minute I started this book it just grabbed by the balls and did not let go. The book begins 6 weeks after a post apocalyptic event where angels have descended and rained down hell upon man. The main character a kick ass 17 year old girl named Penryn (named for an exit off the freeway) and her disabled sister Paige and mentally ill mother are just trying to survive. While out scavenging for food they stumble upon an angel getting attacked by five other angels where his wings are horrifically cut off. In the ensuing melee Pen end’s up saving the angels life but at the cost of her sister being abducted. What ensues is a very unlikely alliance between Pen and the angel named Raffe. Fans of dystopian, post apocalyptic, YA, paranormal romance and even horror will love this book. The fight scenes were epic, the romance subtle, the action out of this world. It will leave you gasping for breath and screaming at your ereader, MORE. I note the author stated there would be 5 books in the series but as of yet book two has not been announced or given a release date. If it were out right now I would not be typing this but reading the book. This book needs some word of mouth press, it was insanely good.
