Camila Núñez’s Year of Disasters by Miriam Zoila Pérez is a YA contemporary novel about a queer Cuban-American who receives a tarot card reading for her 16th birthday, which than intensifies her already troubling anxiety over her future. I love this cover and the feeling the art evokes! As someone who doesn’t know much about tarot, I love the cards on the cover too, because they are so fun! What experience I do have with tarot is how awesome the art usually is on a deck! I’m very drawn to the illustrations, which probably explains why I love illustrated book covers like this one too!
I love how many queer debut’s that are publishing from Page Street these days, at least we know that independent presses are not fearing away from “risky titles” – ugh it pains me to even write that phrase, but it is more important now than ever to support queer YA as well as small presses! Camila Núñez’s Year of Disasters releases on March 18th, so get this one pre-ordered if it sounds like your cup of tea!
