Over the course of one chaotic night stranded at the Denver airport, Ryn confronts her shattered past thanks to the charm of romance, the uniqueness of strangers, and the magic of ordinary places in this stunning novel from the author of Boys of Summer.
Ryn has one unread text message on her phone. And it’s been there for almost a year.
She hasn’t tried to read it. She can’t. She won’t. Because that one message is the last thing her best friend ever said to her before she died.
But as Ryn finds herself trapped in the Denver International Airport on New Year’s Eve thanks to a never-ending blizzard on the one-year anniversary of her best friend’s death, fate literally runs into her.
And his name is Xander.
When the two accidentally swap phones, Ryn and Xander are thrust into the chaos of an unforgettable all-night adventure, filled with charming and mysterious strangers, a secret New Year’s Eve bash, and a possible Illuminati conspiracy hidden within the Denver airport. But as the bizarre night continues, all Ryn can think about is that one unread text message. It follows her wherever she goes, because Ryn can’t get her brialliantly wild and free-spirited best friend out of her head.
Ryn can’t move on.
But tonight, for the first time ever, she’s trying. And maybe that’s a start.
As moving as it is funny, The Chaos of Standing Still is a heartwarming story about the earth-shattering challenges life throws at us—and the unexpected strangers who help us along the way.

My Favorite Holiday Traditions
Can you feel it? It’s already in the air (as well as in ALL of the stores.) The holidays are coming!
I admit, I’m a sucker for this time of year. Basically Thanksgiving to New Years is one of my favorite times of the year. (Side note: My least favorite time of year is January to March when it’s cold and dreary and there’s no fun family holidays to make it feel magical.)
Like all families, mine has its traditions. Things we do every year to get us all in the mood.
So I thought, since December is almost here, I would share with you my top 5 winter traditions to get me into the holiday spirit!
Here they are (in no particular order):
1. Watching Love Actually – We all adore this movie and I think every single one of us can quote every single line. Which is your favorite storyline? Mine is definitely Colin Firth and his housekeeper! When he shows up at that restaurant to propose to her in Portuguese, man, I lose it every time!
2. Playing Name that Tune – This is a more recent tradition, but for the past few years, I’ve been hosting a Name that Tune game for my family. I created my very own Jeopardy board (in Powerpoint! I know, super nerd!) We divide up the family into two teams and I play snippets of songs (in various categories) and the teams have to guess what song it is. And yes, of course there’s a final Jeopardy round!
3. Frosted tea cakes – My mother-in-law makes the most delicious white cookies in the shape of Christmas trees with green frosting. I have no idea what they are. She always calls them “tea cakes.” They’re like sugar cookies but really soft. They are DELICIOUS! Sometimes I wish she would make them year round, but I guess, then they wouldn’t be as special.
4. Holiday Light Tours – Every year, we all bundle up, pour hot cocoa into travel mugs and walk around the neighborhood looking at the decorate houses. I am SO not the kind person to put all that time into decorating our own house, but I LOVE that people do it. And checking out all the beautiful lit up houses is one of my favorite things to do at this time of year.
5. The Epic Gift Stealing Game – This is also a new tradition that I’m now OBSESSED with. We get together with my in-laws and some of their favorites and play a RUTHLESS game of gift giving and stealing. I have no idea what the game’s called (I don’t even know if it has a name) and it’s honestly too complicated to even explain in this post (it took me two years to fully understand the strategy) but it’s such a blast. It totally brings out my competitive side! Oh, and the tea cakes are always served, which is just an added bonus.
Okay, so just writing this post has totally gotten me excited for the holidays! Thanks, BookCrushin for getting me into the spirit! I hope you all enjoy THE CHAOS OF STANDING STILL! (Hint hint, it makes an excellent holiday gift!) 🙂
