New Release Review: Sweet Valley Twins: Sneaking Out by Francine Pascal
Happy Book Birthday to the latest graphic novel adaption of the Sweet Valley Twins! This is volume 5, and is called Sneaking Out and is available today! Just like the books you can read any of them as a stand alone, but it’s so cool to see this adaption have 6 volumes in the works – and if you are like me you’ll want to start at volume 1 Best Friends (which we interviewed the author of here!). I am thrilled to be a part of the blog tour with a review post below. So check out my thoughts and add this wonderfully adapted Middle Grade graphic novel series to your library!

Review:
Sweet Valley Twins Graphic Novel #5: Sneaking Out is a delightful continuation of the beloved series reimagined for today’s readers. Set against the backdrop of a big concert that everyone at Sweet Valley Middle School is attending (except for twins Jessica and Elizabeth), this graphic novel captures the timeless appeal of the original books while offering new, vibrant illustrations and modern updates that will captivate a younger generation.
In this story, Jessica is determined to sneak out and attend the concert, even if it means lying to their parents and leaving her responsibilities behind. The story deals with themes of selfishness, promises, and the consequences of breaking trust, which are important lessons for young readers. Claudia Aguirre’s artwork adds an extra layer of charm, bringing the characters and the emotional moments to life with ease.
While this book is aimed at a younger audience, it’s clear that readers of all ages will enjoy it, especially those nostalgic for the original series. The lessons are relevant, the characters are relatable, and it’s fun to watch Jessica and Elizabeth navigate their twin bond with humor and heart.
If you’re a fan of the series or a parent looking for meaningful reading material for your preteen, Sneaking Out is a highly recommended pick. The story holds up well and is a great way to introduce younger readers to the world of Sweet Valley.
