Blog Tour, Review, Event Recap & Giveaway: Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

As a contemporary reader, Bring Me Their Hearts is the fantasy novel I didn’t know I needed. But by the end of the first page of this book, I knew I had to have it. I was so thrilled when Sara Wolf decided to launch in the Bay Area and immediately requested the opportunity to moderate her. Talk about an amazing experience! Check out the brief recap and review below…And then calmly (not) walk to your local bookstore (or pick up a signed copy from Books, Inc!) to get your shiny beautiful copy.

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

Category: Young Adult, Fantasy
Publication: June 5th, 2018; Entangled Teen
Purchase: Amazon, Entagled

Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera’s heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him—every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him—until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

Event Recap:

#BringMeTheirHearts Launch | Books, Inc – Burlingame

June 5th, 2018

When I asked Sara what brought her to launch in the Bay Area (she’s a San Diego local and they have a great bookstore – Mysterious Galaxy!), she simple said: the teens.

Books, Inc hosts a teen reading club to provide feedback on upcoming and new releases. How fab is that? The teens get to read ARCs (and they are super readers!) and share in the group what they liked or didn’t about the story. Sara joined the group, some of which had read Bring Me Their Hearts and some who hadn’t (but quickly purchased it!). They had some amazing questions, which Sara answered candidly.

Of course life-size Zera had to come with. Here is Sara trying to quiet her but no one puts Zera in a corner (because you might end up dead).

Usually I live tweet events but since I was on the same side of the table as Sara, I had to steal this Instastory from Adriana. We did get an introduction to cover artist Yin Yuming and I can’t wait to see what books 2 and 3 look like. We also discussed the subtle changes from the ARC to finished copy – like the beautiful gold foil!

As always, it’s nice to see our local bookstagram community out supporting. Check out Casey’s gorgeous picture below!

5/5 Stars

People who know me know it’s a hard sell for me to pick up a fantasy novel. Unfamiliar worlds laid out tend to bore me; magic and the like doesn’t entice me.

Folks, this book just punches all that in the face.

For as much as Bring Me Their Hearts is a fantasy novel, it’s also a character driven novel that is expertly shown, and not told. The world building was so natural that I felt like I could reach into the pages and live there. Not that I’d actually want to, considering the state of the world.

Let’s first talk about Zera, one of the most fascinating female characters I’ve read in a while. She’s 100% sass and 200% badass. Zera is fierce when it comes to protecting her heart – and I’ll leave it at that so you can see what I mean.

I loved that each of the side characters got their own backstory woven into the history of the world they live in. I can’t even decide who is my favorite (though it might be Malachite).

Also, THAT.ENDING. Winner takes their heart – Sara is just racking them up because we are all dead after reading this. Bring me book 2 to revive me!

Author Bio: Sara Wolf

Sara Wolf is a twenty-something author who adores baking, screaming at her cats, and screaming at herself while she types hilarious things. When she was a kid, she was too busy eating dirt to write her first terrible book. Twenty years later, she picked up a keyboard and started mashing her fists on it and created the monster known as Lovely Vicious. She lives in San Diego with two cats, a crippling-yet-refreshing sense of self-doubt, and not enough fruit tarts ever.

I strong female character is one that pushes past her fears to do the right thing, one who isn’t afraid to stand out and be different, and one who loves who she is, no matter what faults she has.

“What makes a female character seem strong to you?” Confidence and assertiveness?
