Spoiler-Free Audiobook Review:

[book rating=4.0/5.0]

This is my first audiobook review, so I figured I should start with the audiobook evaluation. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Crossing the Ice narrated by Emily Stokes. She had fun with the voices and I was never confused as to whom was talking even with multiple ladies in the book. She did a great job with the boys too, you can tell it was still Emily, but she put enough spin on it that it was definitely distinguishable. Not only were the characters uniquely portrayed but Emily instilled their emotions into her narration. I felt how they felt; like they were telling me the story directly. The audio itself had a few minor editing problems, where the narration pauses for too long or the narrator repeated herself. It doesn’t hurt the story and it isn’t frequent, but I thought I should share since it is an honest review.

Crossing the Ice is a sweet, new adult romance with college-aged characters. It is romantic yet still clean and suitable for a YA audience. I have a soft, squishy spot for ice skating and the Olympics; quite frankly it is awfully girly of me! Then again I enjoy most sports, but you don’t have to be a fan of sports or ice skating to fall for this story. The book smoothly explains all the sporty stuff while making it competitive and interesting. Plus all of the competition adds to the romantic tension and overall story. Crossing the Ice is a spinoff of Jennifer Comeaux’s Edge series, so she has the ice skating narrative perfected. Plus some of her former characters are present in this book but not once did I feel lost reading this book as my first foray into this world. It only made me want to go read Emily’s stories!

This is a spoiler-free review so I will tell you that I love Courtney and Josh! Their relationship is so organic but fraught with tension while still being cute and funny! Plus the kissing is so swoon-inducing! I laughed, smiled till my cheeks hurt and cheered them on at competitions as well as in their relationship. The secondary characters were perfect in their roles as well. It all crafted an entertaining romantic read!

I recommend this story as it was so funny, tender and really enjoyable!
