Feature: Summer Reads

Today, let’s talk about Summer Reads. I used to read so much during the summer months, new releases were slower than the fall, so it was a great time to tackle the TBR. Since I am a grown ass woman, I don’t really have a summer break. Plus this summer, I barely read anything! I joined a challenge to help motivate me to read more, and I think I read less. So that’s disappointing. So I am just going to wax poetic for the good ol’ days…and give you some awesome summer reads recommendations.

Summer Reads:

There was a time when summer was full of lazy days sunbathing with a book…wait I never did the sunbathing part! But to me I can still picture the easy going days, usually on my couch, reading required school reads and as many library books I could consume. The library was like my place to be in the summer, it was air conditioned, quiet, and you didn’t need money to sit in there all day long. It was perfection.

These days I still enjoy the library, but I am lucky enough to have central air and I can snuggle on my couch with my doggies and try to read a book. I say try because this year has been depressing and I can’t focus on the words on the pages. I have been watching way too much tv for my liking, but I can’t seem to get my brain to enjoy reading right now. Eh. Let’s hope that turns around right quick because the fall is stacking up to have many, many amazing reads (like Brooding YA Hero…).

So in the breezy hot summer days I prefer my reading to be less challenging and more escapist. I love light subject matter and silly romances or thrilling adventure to consume in summer. Fantasy reads need to be enthusiastic, fast-paced, and unputdownable.
