Feature: Summer Reads

Today, let’s talk about Summer Reads. I used to read so much during the summer months, new releases were slower than the fall, so it was a great time to tackle the TBR. Since I am a grown ass woman, I don’t really have a summer break. Plus this summer, I barely read anything! I joined a challenge to help motivate me to read more, and I think I read less. So that’s disappointing. So I am just going to wax poetic for the good ol’ days…and give you some awesome summer reads recommendations.

This feature post is inspired by the Brooding YA Hero Street Team! If you haven’t heard, the twitter sensation the Brooding YA Hero, is now going to be a book! Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me by Carrie Ann DiRisio so add it to your TBR or preorder it now!

Summer Reads:

There was a time when summer was full of lazy days sunbathing with a book…wait I never did the sunbathing part! But to me I can still picture the easy going days, usually on my couch, reading required school reads and as many library books I could consume. The library was like my place to be in the summer, it was air conditioned, quiet, and you didn’t need money to sit in there all day long. It was perfection.

These days I still enjoy the library, but I am lucky enough to have central air and I can snuggle on my couch with my doggies and try to read a book. I say try because this year has been depressing and I can’t focus on the words on the pages. I have been watching way too much tv for my liking, but I can’t seem to get my brain to enjoy reading right now. Eh. Let’s hope that turns around right quick because the fall is stacking up to have many, many amazing reads (like Brooding YA Hero…).

So in the breezy hot summer days I prefer my reading to be less challenging and more escapist. I love light subject matter and silly romances or thrilling adventure to consume in summer. Fantasy reads need to be enthusiastic, fast-paced, and unputdownable.

  1. Same here. I work full time so summer is just another season, only hotter and more prone to tornadoes. It seems that my peak reading months (and I have zero idea why) tend to be April and May. But I find that I’m reading slower, having to backtrack more, and other things that aren’t in my favor. 🙁

Nice list, though–I’ve read one of the books. Really, though, I know I’m getting super behind but I have trust issues with series (plus my memory sucks and I can’t reread everything each time a book releases). So I have a lot of series I’m holding off on until they are complete. Like, COMPLETE complete… no buzz of more to come, no spin-offs, no damn mid-series cover changes, etc.;)

But I just keep buying and buying them. LOL

    • Nice!! I know I keep putting Geekerella on every list…but I can’t help it. I can guarantee it will be on my Best of 2017 lists as well!
