Review’

Remember when we used to be unencumbered humans? When we were small and society hadn’t socialized us into letting go of our playful and exploratory side. I was just thinking about this the other day…As I get older, I take less risks socially. I am more afraid to be who I am because of what people will think. 

Honestly, I hate it.

The Cardboard Kingdom challenges exactly this. Who would we be if we had the imagination to transform cardboard boxes into kingdoms, creatures, kings, queens, villains, heroes…Anything! If we could see the world through a lens of magic. All through one summer, in one neighborhood, with a variety of perspectives. 

Chad Sell had recruited a list of masterful storytellers to showcase a diverse set of people doing what people should do – creature. Envision. The story is anthology style yet the themes and tone remain consistent throughout. Characters come in and out of stories, as makes sense with what’s happening in the neighborhood at that time. 

Honestly, we can all use the reminder that nothing is as it seems and we are socialized into a box at times. Let’s get out and have some fun – costumes NOT optional.

I slowly savored this little piece of sunshine, reading bits before bed. Put this on everyone’s holiday lists, especially if they love whimsical stories, childhood friendships that should never end, and whole face smiles for days.

What We Can’t Wait For
