Audiobook Review: Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
Darkdawn (Nevernight #3) by Jay Kristoff was probably my most anticipated series finale this year and I am going to share some of my thoughts without spoilers, aka a non-traditional review.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio for providing us a review copy, which does not influence my thoughts below.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?
Review
How to review Darkdawn without spoilers is basically me telling you how I felt, and how I assume everyone felt while reading the final book in the Nevernight trilogy.
My feelings went a little like this:
WHAT IS GOING ON?
Wait, no.
Oh, snap.
Wahahaha, Jay is so funny. So so silly.
Oh no, Jay. Nooooo.
How can you hurt me like this?
Ewww that’s just gross.
What could possibly happen next?
WHAT?! How meta.
I love this part!!!
O’ gentlefriends, oh.
Whoa. Mia is nothing short of the most badass bitch.
Yikes that was bloody…
Oh no, I am so so sad. My poor dear Mia…
What in the world could possibly happen next?
What a hell of journey!
Seriously, my heart hurts…but I’m good.
It’s over and I am sad, yet happy. I am OK?!
I don’t know…maybe I should re-read the whole series.
Oh, Darkdawn you were everything I ever wanted in a series ending. It was perfect and reassured my enduring love for this series. I was so scared I was going to be disappointed, but no. I had some issues with one tiny huge spoiler, but by the end I was satisfied. So even though I cursed Jay’s name many times, I am enthralled. One of my favorite series, hands down.
The audiobooks for this series are wonderful, and I highly recommend. I know people had trouble with the footnotes from book 1, but if you listen to the audiobook, the footnotes are built right in, so it’s flawless and never stunts any reading progress. Hoelter Graham narrated all three books and I couldn’t imagine a better performance. Seriously, I think the audiobook enhances this read, puts the fierceness, the snark, the emotions right into your brain.
“However it ends, at least you had a story to tell.”
