Review:
[book rating=5.0/5.0]I wasn’t some weakling…I was Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter.
Bite me and die. They could all suck it.
Hunting Season is the fourth installment in Nikki Jefford’s Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter series. I actually read all of these books in about a week to review Vampire Hunter, and I really enjoyed all of them. Each book improved upon its predecessor, adding more layers to the characters and plot. In Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter, we are introduced to the three main characters of the series: Aurora, Dante, and Fane. Fane is the dark and brooding bad boy who knows more about Aurora than she suspects, and Dante is the lovable St. Bernard of a guy who is happy to be alive, kicking ass and taking names. Aurora, the victim of a car accident that left her for dead and then irrevocably altered, her life no longer her own. Each book subsequently presents new challenges and missions for Aurora as she is trained to hunt and kill vampires. Of course, nothing is as it seems and by Hunting Season, Aurora has learned the truth about what she really is and for whom she is working.
Now, let’s get to the juicy details. I lurve Fane. He is dark and brooding and sexy and brooding and dark and…right. You get the point. But if he is dark, then Dante is light; perpetually happy, always optimistic, Dante is the epitome of a red-blooded American male, but with depth. There is a slight love triangle throughout the series but Aurora’s heart seems to sway heavier in one direction than another, so as a reader I feel like she ultimately knows who she loves. Obstacles just keep getting in the way of her being with that man (curse you, Nikki!), so I’m hoping in Whiteout, the next installment in the series, they are finally brought back together.
The characters in the book are well-developed, funny, smart, sarcastic, likeable, and hateable (hello, Jared, Melcher, and Valerie – three characters whom I loathe and despise. I can’t wait to see them brought to their knees! But, umm, I digress…). Aurora starts out as a strong character but only grows bolder and more confident throughout the series. She learns to trust her instincts and her abilities. I also like that the books don’t take themselves too seriously. After all, they are about a group of late teens/young adults who are supposedly working for the government to kill vampires. A wry sense of humor permeates all the books, and I highlighted several passages in Hunting Season that made me laugh out loud.
Aurora Sky – Hunting Season: 5/5 Stars. Exciting, action-packed, funny, grr-inducing (stop separating Aurora from you-know-who!). I can’t wait for Whiteout!
Quotes:
“For the briefest moment I almost believed I was still a human girl out for a ride with her friends. But we were a car full of corpses—two perfectly poised and one shivering.”
“We had a centuries-old vampire at our disposal. What did my mom have? A tennis racket. A cake pan. My seventy-three-year-old grandmother.”
“Dante wasn’t the type to give up, and neither was I. Together we’d figure something out. Together we’d survive.”
“Just what we needed this week—Evil Red resurrected, released, and raising hell while we were in the midst of a rescue mission.”
