Our world is being judged and even they remain unaware.
Michelle, another young woman with an unexplainable gift, finds herself surrounded by the previously undiscovered werewolf society. Kept prisoner for the predictions that torment her, she meekly follows orders waiting for her opportunity to run. When her stepfather dies, she takes a chance and escapes.
After witnessing Blake, her captor, grow canines, she knows he will do anything to find her. She needs a place to hide and someone to listen to her predictions so her head doesn’t explode, but knows there’s nowhere she can hide forever, and no one who can protect her… unless she can find someone just like him.
Part of the fur wearing faction wants to use her, another part strives to keep her safe. The second book of the Judgement of the Six series will raise more questions about the purpose of these gifted few and Michelle will need to fight for answers. Will what she discovers be enough to help her keep those she loves safe from an emerging evil?
Spoiler-Free Review:
My first reaction after finishing (Mis)Fortune was “It’s over?!” & “WOW” it really does not disappoint. Sequels are sometimes frustrating and seem to bridge stories, but NOT (Mis)Fortune! It is 100% it’s own story where a lot of the characters & themes intersect from Book 1, Hope(less) but it tells the story about another one of the ‘Six’, Michelle, who is the heroine. If you haven’t read Hope(less) I highly recommend you do first! I have provided the book information and a short review below!
I will admit I was slightly hesitant about this series, werewolves are a little predictable and I just thought it might be overdone. DO NOT MAKE these assumptions about the Judgement of the Six Series! I devoured both books and I really did not want them to end; I wanted so much more!! I was drawn to the heroine, Michelle and her moxie just made me smile constantly. She was so mature and at the same time she could still admit that she barely knows what she is doing especially as she is thrust into her new situation and dealing with the discovery of an underground world that seems so much more vast than she could ever imagine.
The characters and the world the author, Melissa Haag, creates are so fun, unique and creative. There is action, romance and suspense. The romance itself is quite swoon-worthy. You just want to scream at Michelle & Emmitt to just kiss already; but really it’s Ms. Haag we need to scream at for making us feel the romantic suspense these characters are feeling right alongside with them. But when they do finally embrace their feelings (& no this isn’t a spoiler, you know they are going to get together, this is a paranormal romance book, come on!) you just jump off your reading chair and cheer!
We are given a whole lot more to the paranormal aspects of the ‘Six’ in this installment than we do in book 1 which I am so happy to delve into, however I could just possibly be more confused now then when I started and I am still dying to know what the heck is really going on! I want, no I NEED more. Michelle’s gifts at first seem very strange and specific, but very much unlike Gabby (book 1 heroine), she wants to figure out what she can do & isn’t going to hold back.
I love the idea of having each book tell a different story that all intersect and tell us more and more about what the ‘Six’ are and what is going on! It may have been that I read both books back to back, but I am suffering from a serious book hangover & just can not wait until book 3, tentatively titled (Un)Wise with a projected release in the Fall of 2013!
Again, 5 out of 5 hearts – Support independent authors and pick up this series RIGHT NOW! You will not be disappointed, the story is fascinating and it will entrap you.

Our world is being judged and we remain unaware.
In a world filled with people, Gabby is uniquely alone. The tiny glowing sparks filling her mind that represent the people around her, confirm it as does the bizarre inexplicable draw she has on men.
Struggling to find an explanation for her sight while dodging unwanted male attention, Gabby meets Sam. The chance encounter leads to a startling revelation – werewolves are real.
Hoping the existence of something so extraordinary might lead to the answers she is seeking, Gabby enters into a hidden society where fur is optional. There she meets Clay, the werewolf delusional enough to think he has a chance with her. Gabby’s plans for her future do not include a mate, but rather college, career, and then a huge ‘we’ll see’.
Gabby leaves the furry hidden society behind when she moves off to college, but trouble has a way of following and finding her. When other werewolves start stalking her, and anomalies in the sparks she sees begin to appear, she must count on Clay’s help or risk loosing the chance to find the answers she searches for.
Spoiler-Free Review:
Hope(less) was so well crafted that I was begging for more, luckily I had book 2, (Mis)Fortune to read immediately. Character development is a gift and Melissa Haag has it! The protagonist in this story is a young lady, Gabby who has some mysterious gifts. She is eventually friended by an elderly werewolf and he starts to introduce Gabby to his world, where he believes she belongs, although she is not a shifter. She eventually meets a wolf, Clay, who is kinda just like her in a lot of ways. Both orphans, troubled with physicality & both really freaking stubborn. Clay made me love this story, hands down. The brooding, calculated and romantic way he waits for Gabby to choose him had me giggling like a school girl.
It is the uniqueness of this slow building romance that makes this book a must read. As you take the journey with Gabby & Clay along the way you learn so much about the two of them and what life is like living in the world as an outsider. You want to smack Gabby for taking her good ole time ignoring her instincts and hiding her powers from the people who care about her but in the end you know she has that ‘duh’ moment and everything pulls together! As a reader I do prefer less of the insta-romance and the real getting to know each other type love, but even I wanted them to just make out already!
Laughter, love and intrigue. Hope(less) has it all! There is more to this book and series than you might think…you just have to pick it up and read it!
Hope(less) is only $0.99 and I could not recommend a better way to spend that dollar! Seriously, it is that good!
