An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her new director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided … and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

Review

[book rating=4.5/5]

I’m going to start this review with a question. How many of you have dreamt about randomly meeting a Hollywood actor and starting a passionate affair? I bet by a show of hands that would be a lot of you. I for one have had some serious fantasies about me, Henry Cavill, and an unlikely Whole Foods Encounter (but that’s another blog post).  Well that’s what happens to Keri Ann Butler in the wildly entertaining Eversea. Imagine being in a sleepy little coastal town minding your business when you by chance meet the worlds hottest A-List actor whose basically hiding out from tabloid scandal. What do you do? How do you act? Keri Ann is super down to earth and under the circumstances she handles this information pretty well but also realistically. From the moment Keri Ann meets Jack Eversea there is an instant chemistry. I wasn’t sure how this story was going to play out (would it be cheesy or overly corny) but the pacing was perfect and their relationship developed organically.

As the story went on I kept picturing it as a movie, and not just because Jack was a bonafide megastar but because it had such a sweet cinematic quality to it. There hasn’t really been a great rom-com in awhile and I firmly believe that Eversea would make an amazing movie (get on that Natasha!).

And let’s discuss Jack Eversea shall we? Obviously, he’s described as devilishly handsome but what I was attracted to was his vulnerability. Being at the top of the Hollywood game isn’t without its drawbacks, mainly isolation and loneliness.  You really felt for Jack and what it must be like to have your every move plastered all over the world and why South Carolina offered the perfect respite from the mayhem of his LA life. I loved watching Jack and Keri Ann grow closer as they covertly hung out and worked on restoring her old house. Keri Ann is an every-girl but at the same time she’s got tons of integrity and heart, which is why you can see why Jack falls for her.

I was instantly swept away by this book. I cannot wait to tear into Forever Jack and see where this story goes (it did end on a cliffhanger after all). It’s sweet, romantic, and yes sexy. There are a ton of crappy New Adult books out there and this book is super classy, in fact I am coining a new category, Classy New Adult. So there you have it, now go get a copy and see why I’m swooning.

  1. My hollywood star fantasy at the moment would come to no surprise for anyone who knows me, it’s totally Jennifer Lawrence – I know she’s the “it” girl right now, but damn it I don’t care! She just seems like just a normal girl who would be the most fun & totally gorgeous!!

  2. This book sounds right up my alley! I love that it’s set in a small town and Jack sounds like a really sweet love interest. I saw that book 2 was in his perspective, too, which is awesome! So happy you enjoyed it! Great review, Shannon! 🙂
