Save me and I’ll save you…
My name is Calla Price. I’m eighteen years old, and I’m one half of a whole.
My other half– my twin brother, my Finn– is crazy.I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I’m terrified he’ll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me.
I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline.
Dare DuBray.
He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me.
He has the power to destroy me.
Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt.
Why? Because of a secret.
A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming.
You won’t either.
Spoiler Free Review
[book rating= 4.0/5.0]Having to write a review for Nocte is difficult. It would be detrimental to the awe of reading this story if I were to give away any of its secrets. Suffice to say, it is unlike anything I’ve read in quite awhile. One of those books that stays with you long after you close the last page as your brain desperately tries to process what you have just read. I knew going into this story that it was going to be intense. In fact it was a note to the reader from author Courtney Cole that had me intrigued:
Is this story dark?
Yes.It is twisted?
At times. Will it slap you in the face?
Absolutely. Will it have you flipping the pages, trying to figure it out, trying to get to the climax, trying to breathe?
God, I hope so…
The story will have you on the edge of your seat, desperately trying to figure out every nuance and every twist and turn. The heart of the story is Calla’s love for her deeply troubled brother Finn. Their relationship is deep, but tinged with co-dependency and sadness. Thankfully, you have the mysterious, sexy Dare Dubray to distract Calla from her troubles. With the exception of his name, which is a bit ridiculous, Dare Dubray oozes sex appeal from the very first time he appears, from his English accent to that motorcycle, he is the epitome of hot. It’s as if Courtney went into my brain and created my dream creature. Sigh.
If I had a qualm with the story it’s that I feel it functioned perfectly fine as a stand alone and couldn’t understand where the story had left to go. But then I read that the author is doing something really interesting with this story. You can help choose Calla’s fate, because Nocte isn’t the end of this story, it’s just the beginning. To reveal any more would be criminal. Just go pick up a copy and join the mystery.
