Shannon’s Top 5 Most AnticipatedIMG_4504

I wish I could have put together a top 20 list because there are just so many great books coming out in 2015! Picking 5 was tough so I went with a new release from one of my most beloved authors, the final installment in a much loved series, the 2nd book in one of my must reads of 2014, and two new novels that look super fun!

* I’ve been obsessed with Tahereh Mafi since I read Shatter Me (one of my favorite series of ALL time) so it’s a no brainer that her next book will be on my most anticipated list of 2015

Cover Coming SoonFurthermore by Tahereh Mafi
Publication: 2015 by Dutton Children’s Books

Once upon a time, a girl was born. It was rather uneventful.

Her parents were happy enough: the mother glad to be done carrying it; the father glad to be done with the mystery of it all. But then one day they realized that their baby, the one they’d named Alice, had no pigment at all. Her hair and skin were white as milk, her heart and bones as soft as silk. Her eyes alone had been spared a spot of color: only just clinging to the faintest shade of honey. It was the kind of child her world could not appreciate.

Ferenwood had been built on color. Bursts of it, swaths of it, depths and breadths of it. Its people were known to be the brightest — modeled after the planets, they’d said — and young Alice was deemed simply too dim, even though she knew she was not.

Once upon a time, a girl was forgot.

Twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow has only three things in the world that matter: Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; triplet brothers, who never knew her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him, so some said he’d gone to measure the sea. Others said the sky. The moon. Maybe he’d learned to fly and had forgotten how to come back down. But it’s been almost six years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’s about to embark on one to find the other. No matter the cost.

It’s a kind of fairytale, a story where magic is a must, adventure is inevitable, and friendship is found in the most unexpected places.

*Bloodlines is one of my favorite series, it’s bittersweet this is the final installment. I’ll be sad to read the last page but am excited to read this final bow.

The epic conclusion to Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series is finally here…

Meanwhile, Adrian becomes enmeshed in a puzzle that could hold the key to a shocking secret about spirit magic, a secret that could shake the entire Moroi world.

*When I stumbled upon this book set in the Superman-verse but based on heroine Lois Lane I knew I had to add it to my must read of 2105 list! I mean Lois Freaking Lane!

loislaneLois Lane: Fallout by Gwenda Bond
Publication: May 1st, 2015 by Switch Press
Purchase: Amazon

Lois Lane is starting a new life in Metropolis. An Army brat, Lois has lived all over—and seen all kinds of things. (Some of them defy explanation, like the near-disaster she witnessed in Kansas in the middle of one night.) But now her family is putting down roots in the big city, and Lois is determined to fit in. Stay quiet. Fly straight. As soon as she steps into her new high school, though, she can see it won’t be that easy. A group known as the Warheads is making life miserable for another girl at school. They’re messing with her mind, somehow, via the high-tech immersive videogame they all play. Not cool. Armed with her wit and her new snazzy job as a reporter, Lois has her sights set on solving this mystery. But sometimes it’s all a bit much. Thank goodness for her maybe-more-than-a friend, a guy she knows only by his screenname, SmallvilleGuy.

*Broken Skies was one of my favorite reads of 2014. A new debut that took me by surprise. I’m chomping at the bit to find out where this series goes!

20535475Fractured Suns (Broken Skies #2) by Theresa Kay
Publication: 2015

We came in peace. Lie.
We had no role in the Collapse. Lie.
I have always been honest. Lie.
I never lied to her.
Truth.

Jax has her brother back, but even stuck in a tiny cabin with him, Flint, Peter, and her new-found Grandfather, she’s never felt more alone. When Rym shows up pleading for Jax to come back to the city with him at Lir’s request, it doesn’t take much for her to decide to go get the answers she craves. But their reunion is cut short and Jax is forced to leave Lir behind to continue on to Bridgelake with some unexpected travel companions.

In near constant torture at the hands of his uncle, Lir hasn’t seen daylight or linked to anyone in months. After a lifetime of connection, the pain and loneliness is almost too much to bear. But seeing Jax again, if only for a moment, gives him the hope and strength he needs to keep fighting. With the rest of the E’rikon blinded by Vitrad’s lies, it’s up to Lir and Rym to stop him.

Though Jax and Lir seem to be on two very different paths, their missions have more in common then they know. It’s a race against time to stop the men who put everyone’s lives at risk for greed and power. But the people they trust the most might be the very people working against them—and “family” doesn’t mean what it used to.

How much will they have to lose to save the people they love? Can they even save each other?

*I have  a feeling that A Court of Thorn and Roses will be on many must read books for 2015. The cover, description and the fact that it’s from New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas doesn’t hurt either.

ThornsA Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Publication: May 5th, 2015 by Bloomsbury Children’s
Purchase: Amazon

A thrilling, seductive new series from New York Timesbestselling author Sarah J. Maas, blending Beauty and the Beast with faerie lore.

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

Perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore and George R. R. Martin, this first book in a sexy and action-packed new series is impossible to put down!

kelly2013Kelly’s Top 5 Most Anticipated

Picking just 5 books is like asking me to choose what tooth to pull! UGH! There are so many books and series that I WANT TO READ! So I have begrudgingly narrowed down my list…to FIVE that I would scream at the top of my lungs because I am so excited to read these! The first 3 are all continuations of series…the 4th & 5th books are from debut authors and I am basing my choices on covers, blurbs and early reviews!

*This is not the cover image, it is just a teaser image, that I received permission from the author to use while we all impatiently wait until the cover reveal! Why is this on the top of my 2015 list? One word…KAIDAN! Enough said.

SweetTemptationTeaserImage2Sweet Temptation (Sweet Trilogy #4) by Wendy Higgins
Publication: September 8th, 2015 by HarperCollins/HarperTeen

Bad boy Kaidan Rowe has never wanted for anything—money, popularity, musical talent…hot girls—but seducing them is part of his duty as a Nephilim, slave to the demon Dukes. As the son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan has learned his father’s ways, becoming a master of passion, a manipulator of chemistry. Disobeying his father would mean certain death. Thankfully for Kaidan, he’s good at his job. And he’s enjoys it.

Until he meets Anna Whitt—sweet, smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she has a certain power over him, one that makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.

Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives as the influencers of sin, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the demons’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.

Sensual and swoon worthy, this companion volume to the acclaimed Sweet Evil series from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, told from the perspective of the irresistibly sexy and mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into his struggle, his intense connection to Anna, and most of all, the true emotions that drive him.

Author Note: Sweet Temptation will encompass parts from the entire trilogy, beginning with Kai’s life before he met Anna, and taking us through the epilogue of Sweet Reckoning. Fitting three books into one means not every detail will get shown – I’ve got to carefully pick and choose. This book is not meant to be a stand alone novel. It will definitely be a richer experience if you’ve read the original trilogy.

*I have nothing to base this choice on other than the cover caught my eye and the blurb has me curious! I love the concept and I am looking forward to something new in the new year!

girlmidnightThe Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey
Publication: April 28th, 2015 by Delacorte Press
Purchase: Amazon

For readers of Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones and Leigh Bardugo’sShadow and Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war.

Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she’s ever known.

Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she’s fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it’s time to act.

Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it’s how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.

But some jobs aren’t as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.

*The 5th book on my list is the only YA contemporary I included, but the description and early reviews have me excited to take this adventure!

mosquitolandMosquitoland by David Arnold
Publication: March 3rd 2015, by Viking Children’s
Purchase: Amazon

“I am a collection of oddities, a circus of neurons and electrons: my heart is the ringmaster, my soul is the trapeze artist, and the world is my audience. It sounds strange because it is, and it is, because I am strange.”

After the sudden collapse of her family, Mim Malone is dragged from her home in northern Ohio to the “wastelands” of Mississippi, where she lives in a medicated milieu with her dad and new stepmom. Before the dust has a chance to settle, she learns her mother is sick back in Cleveland.

So she ditches her new life and hops aboard a northbound Greyhound bus to her real home and her real mother, meeting a quirky cast of fellow travelers along the way. But when her thousand-mile journey takes a few turns she could never see coming, Mim must confront her own demons, redefining her notions of love, loyalty, and what it means to be sane.

Told in an unforgettable, kaleidoscopic voice, “Mosquitoland” is a modern American odyssey, as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
