Lauren Oliver’s Delirium Being Made Into a Pilot for TV

book-deliriumFox Networks announced yesterday that it will be ordering a pilot episode of the adaption of the best selling trilogy, Delirium written by Lauren Oliver. The TV pilot is written & produced by Karyn Usher, know for Prison Break. Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope are also listed as Executive Producers on the prospective show.

Now as ecstatic as I am over this news, ordering a pilot does not mean it will ever make it to prime time.  But the story is fun and unique.  Delirium takes place in a dystopian Portland, Maine where science is the key to making a better society, so most think.

Synopsis from Lauren Oliver’s website:

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing.

They didn’t understand that once love — the deliria — blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

If you haven’t read Delirium, it comes highly recommended. I loved it, and everyone I know who has read it, absolutely devoured it. I myself at first thought it was going to be kinda bandwagon-ish jumping on the dystopian genre, but I was hooked within a few chapters & what I got out of it was a unique and gripping story that was impossible to put down.

Pandemonium, book 2, is available here
