Crushed on by Christy Jane, on November 3, 2018, in Comics/Graphic Novels, Feature, Reviews / 0 Comments

Welcome to Comic Crush Saturday, our bi-weekly feature focused on the graphic elements of the book world. Comics became a huge part of my life a few years ago when I started reviewing them (and comic related TV shows) on Forever Young Adult. I’ve maintained a pulllist through my local comic shop, Isotope Comics, and even got Kelly to start one ;). You’ll find mini-reviews, what we’ve read recently, and more so check it out!

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…

Thanks to our trainers, both Chris and I are super obsessed with My Hero Academia, an anime and manga. There are so many loveable characters, but especially the ones in Class 1a.

What I love about the story is how much heart there is. Deku, our little friend with the green hair, will stop at nothing to be a hero. Doesn’t matter that he wasn’t born with a quirk (power) – he’s going to make it happen. So he studies heroes and is basically the best cinnamon roll. And Todoroki just stole my heart the minute he appeared on the page/screen. So we decided to dress as Deku, Todoroki, and teacher Aizawa for Halloween!

And we reinacted our favorite Deku/Todoroki gif.

The world fell in love with her in the movie. Now, the Black Panther's techno-genius sister launches her own adventures - written by best-selling Afrofuturist author Nnedi Okorafor and drawn by Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero! The Black Panther has disappeared, lost on a mission in space. And in his absence, everyone's looking at the next in line for the throne. But Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She'd rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one - and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda's welfare and her own.

COLLECTING: SHURI 1-5

We do not have enough young adult characters in comics so seeing Shuri get her own book is just so exciting. Don’t wait for the bind up – the individual issues have started!

A new era of Firefly starts here, as the secret history of the Unification War is revealed at last!

From Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Avengers) comes a new era of Firefly, as the definitive story of the Unification War is told at last!

Captain Malcolm Reynolds thought he could outrun his past, but when a simple heist goes wrong, he’s forced to confront it. With the fabled Traitor of Serenity Valley in his sights, Mal’s quest for revenge will put him at odds with his own crew, forcing him to make a choice: fix the past or fight for the future.

Along with Whedon, writer Greg Pak (Mech Cadet Yu, Totally Awesome Hulk, Weapon X) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd: Mega City Zero) take you back to the battleground where it all began...and reveal a secret history that might end it all.

We can all agree that there isn’t enough Firefly in the world so this new series from Boom! is a dream come true!
