Comic Crush Saturday: October 5th, 2019

Welcome to Comic Crush Saturday, our bi-weekly feature focused on the graphic elements of the book world. Comics became a huge part of my life a few years ago when I started reviewing them (and comic related TV shows) on Forever Young Adult. I’ve maintained a pull list through my local comic shop, Isotope Comics, and even got Kelly to start one ;). You’ll find mini-reviews, what we’ve read recently, and more so check it out!

Reviews

Last Comic Crush, we sang the praises of the DC Ink line. Now we are here to talk about the titles we’ve read this year and why you should pick them up.

Pick up Mera: Tidebreaker if love comics that don’t require much backstory, beautiful contrasting color, and insta-love.

Pick up Batman: Nightwalker if you enjoy angular art, you love angsty Batman with a heart of gold, and Marie Lu’s version of a happy ending.

Pick up Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass if you love books that resist, alternative takes on women who are classically only shown as counterparts to dudes, and art that will have you formulating at least 10 different cosplay while reading.

Pick up Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale if you love a story that will make you feel, a unique take on Catwoman’s origin story, and responsible storytelling thanks to the resources at the end.

Pick up Teen Titans: Raven if you want a book that uses story layout and flow as a character, the beginning to what I hope is a whole team story, and a cover that will want you to put the book face out.

This princess can't resist the lure of adventure, but her parents aren't quite on board in this fantastical graphic novel perfect for fans of Princess in Black and Phoebe and Her Unicorn!

Robin? Robin? Robin?! Where are you?She couldn't have gone far. . . .Princesses don't run away to have their own adventures. Right? Princesses stay quietly and obediently at home. They would never want mermaids and swamps and pirates and getting kidnapped to be a part of their lives. Not this princess!

Adventures await when Robin (bored of princess-ing all the time) embarks on the best adventure of her life--meeting friends along the way as she travels through the magical landscape of her country. But her parents aren't so pleased--and they're coming to find her and bring her back to the castle, no matter how she feels about it!

The first of the RH Graphics line is out in January and you can see interiors right over here!

Tell me again how graphic novel reading isn’t reading

It’s a mystery inception (that I immediately added to my pull list)

There will never be too many graphic novel imprints focused on diversity and this one is especially exciting!
