Comic Extravaganza – The Blog Tour: Interview with MK Reed

I am thrilled to be a part of the Comics Extravaganza – The Blog Tour! Today I am hosting an interview with MK Reed the author of Science Comics: Dinosaurs!  I personally have been getting way more into graphic novels. The the art and creativity really entice me as a reader. Hope you check out the entire blog tour, as each stop has unique content.

Interview – MK Reed:

Tell us your first memory of reading a comic or graphic novel.

I don’t have a specific one, but pretty much the whole reason we got newspapers when I was little was so my brother & I could read Calvin & Hobbes & the Far Side. The Sunday paper was like a brick that would show up once a week with a tiny piece of magic hidden in the middle of 300 pages of things no one in the house cared about. I don’t miss tying up bundles of papers to get a tiny sliver of comics every week though.

What’s your favorite comic or graphic novel, and what do you love about it?

I don’t really have one favorite book, I just have favorite artists. I really love everything Eleanor Davis does, her colors are so lush. Farel Dalrymple’s writing is on a whole different level from most comics and then he has the nerve to make the art looks so good on top of that. Marian Churchland’s comics are ridiculously beautiful, while staying with a very subdued color scheme.

Tell us a little about your latest graphic novel.

I recently finished writing another book for the Science Comics line about climate & weather. Jonathan Hill is drawing it now, and making all my ideas look much more amazing than they did in my head. It’s his superpower. One of his former students is coloring the book and while it seems impossible to me that Jonathan’s art could be improved by anyone else, Nyssa Oru is doing just that.

What comic or graphic novel are you reading now?

Farel Dalrymple’s new collection of Pop-Gun War, which he’s been doing on & off for nearly 20 years now.
