Feature: A Prideful Recap

Back in early June we posted our Pride TBR with great intentions and a very ambitious list. June is now over. It is time to account for ourselves. Spoiler: we both read a lot of queer books this month. Whether those books were on our actual lists is a separate conversation.

Christy’s Recap

Remember when I posted my Pride TBR at the beginning of June and it was full of sapphic romance and Kelly Quindlen and Hayley Kiyoko and all these very intentional queer reads I was going to power through? Right. About that.

I read one book from my actual TBR. One. Where You’ll Find Us by Jude St. Jude, which I gave five stars and which wrecked me in exactly the ways I hoped it would. I am also currently reading This Must Be the Place by Kelly Quindlen and it is incredible so that one counts as in progress.

Everything else I read this month was apparently decided by a different version of me who had completely different plans. I went extremely deep on Rex Ogle, blowing through the entire Four Eyes series plus Fruitcake in essentially one sitting. I read all of The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos that exists, also gave it five stars (it has INCREDIBLE art). I read sapphic manga. A lot of manga. I listened to The Fight of Our Lives by David Levithan and Gabriel Duckels on audio and that one I have no regrets about whatsoever, it was exactly what June needed. That book stopped me cold several times.

But I did read 14 books this month!

Pride TBR: technically a suggestion.

Kelly’s Recap

I read 6 books in June, which doesn’t feel as impactful as I was hoping, but now the real question is how many of those were on my hopeful Pride Month TBR? 3; I read 3 of my hopefuls…I would count that as a win! From the TBR I read Smash or Pass, The Hyacinth Labyrinth, and Time-Tripping Over You. I did read another book I shared on my instagram stack TBR, Scarlet Morning by N.D. Stevenson. So that stack had 10…but 4 out of 10, not the worst! I also read two queer nonfiction books, Queercore by Audrey Golden and My Bad: A Personal History of the Queer Nineties and Beyond by Hugh Ryan!
