Whiteout by Nikki Jefford

Series: Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #5
Category: New Adult, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon US, iTunes, Amazon UK, Kobo

Life on the run is no winter picnic, especially when Aurora’s partner sees himself as the sheriff, not the outlaw.

It’s a cat and mouse game across the Last Frontier with agents and vampires out for blood while Fane searches desperately to find Aurora before rogue vampires do.

The hunters have become the hunted. And the road to freedom has never felt more uncertain.

Review:

[book rating=4.5/5]

**Minor spoilers for previous books in the series.**

“Whiteout” by Nikki Jefford is another book that has been on my “I can’t wait to read this book!” list. This is the 5th book in the series; I binge-read all the previous books a few months ago for the blog and was eagerly awaiting Whiteout because Nikki kept tearing apart Aurora and Fane (oh, Fane Donado, how I adore thee…) and I couldn’t wait to see if she finally got them together in Whiteout. I’m not going into plot details here, but, let’s just say, I had a grin on my face at certain parts of the story.

The book picks up right where Hunting Season left off, and Aurora, Dante, and Giselle are on the run through the wilds of Alaska. I love Nikki’s writing style, which drips with sarcasm (example: “Good ol’ Alaska—where guns and ammo could be purchased with less grief than a pack of cigarettes. Residents would sooner accept polygamy than gun control.”), and I think Aurora is a kickass heroine who has grown exponentially throughout the series. In this book, I found some of the action a little circuitous, but that might be because for a duration of reading, I was mentally screaming, “GET HER TO FANE. WHERE IS FANE?” or, “NO, DO NOT CONTINUE THROUGH THE WILDERNESS! FIND FANE!” I was also surprised at how much I was annoyed with Dante in this book—like, to the point where I thought, who is this asshat? That’s a tribute to the writing, though, and shows how good Nikki is at character development. Dante is definitely struggling to accept his reality and it showed throughout the entire story. I enjoyed learning more about Fane’s past and his family, and liked seeing him throw his family name around to get stuff done.

After reading Whiteout, I can safely say two things: I never, ever want to go to Alaska, because I abhor snow and I felt cold for the entire book and, the second thing, I can’t wait for the final book and the showdown that I know is coming between our favorite vampires and the agency that created them. I’m dying for Melcher and Jared to go down in flames. They are some of the most despicable characters I’ve read and I absolutely loathe them (again, great writing) so I am chomping at the bit for their demise!

Whiteout: 4.5/5 stars! Great job, Nikki!
