I despise Erik Winter.

He’s arrogant and cruel—a man I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy—and by some twisted turn of fate, he’s my new Olympic gymnastics coach.

I’ve had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defenses—if I let it.

Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and necessity. I’m his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio.

The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man I’ll be sharing close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war.

Fine. By. Me.

If he pushes me, I’ll push back harder. If he wants to test me, to play with my head, I’ll show him just how many boundaries I’m willing to cross. Because I know it’s not a choice between winning or warring—not if you can have them both. At the end of it all, I plan on leaving Rio with gold around my neck and his icy heart in the palm of my hand.

Review:

[book rating=5/5]
“If you expect love to come when it’s convenient, you’ll be waiting your entire life.”

What can I say other than I really love sports romances & I loved Out of Bounds! As a huge fan of the Olympics I am so happy that this series is leading into the ACTUAL Summer Games! I barely keep track of sports outside of my city’s teams, but when the Olympics come around, I end up watching and DVRing as much of the games as possible. So as you can imagine this book & series has been right up my alley.

Out of Bounds starts off with Brie Watson and how hard she has trained, sacrificed, and prepared for her ultimate goal of winning gold at the Olympics. It is just a few months before the Olympics, when we find out the previous Olympic Coach of 30 years resigns due to his health and somehow his 29 year old son and former gymnast, Erik Winter, takes over the head coach role. Erik Winter has his own gym, has been training gymnasts for the last 10 years, and has a nice piece of property for the team to stay on and get to know one another in hopes to build the team dynamic they need to finally take some medals home from Rio.

It is just a month before the Olympics, and the good stuff starts when the team comes to train together for the final countdown before the big games. There is crazy sexual tension right off the bat. Brie shows up to Erik’s place a few hours early, and catches him with his shirt off, literally. They both fire at one another, and this sets the tone for the two of them throughout the book. They are trying to hate each other, push each other to the limits, all the while trying to ignore their sexual attraction. This dynamic on top of the coach/athlete role really made this a fun road to romance in Rio!

Seriously, the heat is on in this book. I love sexual tension, as long as there is a good payoff, and yes…there is. Not really a spoiler, this is a sports romance novel!! All of the steam and angst was just on par and had me fogging up my ereader from all the warmth it created. You will need a fan reading this one, stat. 😉

But Erik Winter isn’t the greatest man ever, he was so infuriating most of the time. I wanted him to fall and I wanted it to hurt. Because he hurt me as a reader, and he hurt Brie so many times. He sure wasn’t an easy to love character, but I did think he had good heart and was trying to keep things professional, but that didn’t always work to his advantage. The more he pushed Brie away the harder it was for them to resist each other. They are both so stubborn and each have such solid backbones that it was hard to think either of them would give in to the other.

As runs true to all of R.S. Grey’s books the comedy was killer. Just so many on point jabs and I was laughing so hard my abs got a work out! Also in no departure, the side-characters definitely provided some comic relief and helped move the story along. I loved all the characters in the book and I also loved getting cameos from Andie & Freddy from Settling the Score!

This series can be read in any order, as the timelines are concurrent, both involving the Rio Olympic Games and nothing spoils one book or the other. Out of Bounds was a brilliantly written, funny, and so damn sexy. I highly recommend it to any romance lovers out there, especially if you like hate-to-lovers tropes, sports romances or for any new adult romance reader, you will love & devour this series! 5 out of 5 smoking hot stars!

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
