Review: ReMade Episodes 1.7-1.9 by Carrie Harris, E.C. Myers & Andrea Phillips
ReMade is a serial novel released in episodes and today I am reviewing episodes 1.7 through 1.9 by Carrie Harris, E.C. Myers, and Andrea Phillips! I am catching up on ReMade before season 2 releases on November 15th! So I will be reviewing ReMade season 1 episodes in small batches. Since I don’t have to wait each week for a new episode I have been bingeing them. My reviews for these serials are a little different, and they contain more plot rehashing then I typically use, so beware of possible spoilers – check out my reviews for the first 3 episodes and the next 3 episodes that I have already posted. [book rating=4/5]In the last episode, Reality No-Show, Inez and Teddy flee on a train they ride it for hours until the come upon a station and slow down. As they enter the station they see the group of survivors from the forest, who are fleeing from the caretakers to the underground station. They all get on the train and try to recover from their injuries, and many are in deep mental distress. So many of the group are dead or were left behind. No one waited around to witness what happened next. Shit is just too real. TOO DAMN REAL NOW. Even though Teddy still is convinced everything is all in his head.
The main narrator is Nevaeh, she is trying to calm everyone down from the attack, and care for the wounded, as well as fill in newbies as to what they have been dealing with. It’s hard for Teddy and Inez to grasp what the rest of the survivors have been through, as they have been on a semi-comfy tv set recreation. After people are acounted for and wounded have been treated as best they can be, the start searching the train. Soon, they find a caretaker that is controlling the train in the conductor’s chamber. Well since Loki, and honestly, everyone else, is dealing with some serious PTSD, he immediately reacts. I can already see that this is definitely not going to end well for them.

After a twitchy trigger finger leaves the train without a driver, the group scrambles to find a way off their runaway getaway. With food running out and still no idea where they are headed, it’s hard to imagine things could get worse…

[book rating=4/5]The End of the Line is exactly where this train is going. We are now getting Inez POV, and I like her a lot, even though I question her attitude often. She is fierce and in control. She cares for Teddy in such a beautiful way, but she also takes no shit whatsoever. We also get her heartbreaking backstory, which I think explains a lot about her. We pick right up with Inez hearing the gunshot and finding Teddy, Loki and Nevaeh all standing around the dead caretaker.
This episode also filled us in on the theory that they all died at the exact same time on the exact same day. I LOVE THIS! It is a tricky little bit of information as to the hows and whys of what is going on big picture, and Inez and Teddy are not isolated from this fact.
Back to the current train situation, now that the conductor is no longer conducting the train, Hyrum (the brains), figures out that the train is picking up an unsettling amount of speed and the food and water curators were no longer working on the train. So no real reason to stay aboard. They decide they need to engage the braking system and get off the speeding train.

All May wants is some alone time – being stuck with a ragtag team of the previously-dead could drive anyone a little crazy (especially when no one has showered for a week). But in this strange and unfamiliar world, danger lurks behind every tree…and sometimes in every cloud.

[book rating=4/5]Well they are no longer on the train nor in the jungle. May is narrating this episode, and she is dealing with a blizzard. She’s cold and alone. Gabe was with her at some point and May feels responsible for their separation, and is desperate to get him back with her.
So let’s be honest here, I hated May throughout most of this story, until I saw how much Gabe cared for her! Most of the characters are annoying at first, and then you find all sorts of redeemable characteristics as you keep reading. It’s almost like you forget they are scared, terrified, and completely alone even within the group. So yeah, you have to read the entire thing to get a grasp on what’s going on. They are all a mess. None of them know what’s going on, or how to care for themselves, and they are trying and learning, and you know what, it’s more realistic when you realize it’s not all clean and tidy.
So May and Gabe both have become better people together through their harrowing experience of almost dying in the snowstorm.
ReMade is a strange sci-fi series, and I know I made my predictions about them being snatched from the past to rebuild this world after catastrophic devastation, but why didn’t someone give them the tools to survive! Why not make a path to follow? Give them a handbook for the recently deceased, anything?! Plus, I feel awful for those who didn’t make in their second life, like come on, why let them die again. It’s so sad. OK onto the last 5 episodes…I better get some damn answers!
