TV Thoughts: The Passage – S1E7 – You are Like the Sun

Welcome to TV Thoughts! We are kicking off this new feature with our thoughts on the newly adapted book to TV show, The Passage. Kelly actually read The Passage by Justin Cronin back when it was released in 2010. She did not however finish the series…you know what they say about big books, well, she is the opposite book nerd. But seriously, she started a YA focused blog, so reading adult books was not at the forefront of my priorities.

As always, spoilers are below.

The Passage – S1E7 – You are Like the Sun – 2/25/19

Brad and Lila remember their history together as they plan to save Amy; Horace Guilder is given full authority over Project NOAH; Carter prepares Amy for Fanning’s grand plan; Lear fights to help Elizabeth.

“Screw you and your weird mustache.”

– Amy

This week’s Passage is all about living your life with the choices you make. I’d say you only get one chance at this life but, well. Overall I found it to be character-driven and emotional, helping us connect deeper with the people on screen. With only a few episodes left, it feels very ominous (maybe I just watch too much Supernatural).

Ugh but for real, Fanning is so abusive. He’s hard pressed to get his 12 virals (disciples?) and hot for his bff’s wife. In this episode, Elizabeth is forced to make a decision. Live forever or die now. Fanning or Jonas? I admit, I cheered a bit when she noped out of becoming the undead. Ooo Fanning did not take that well.

I’ve long wondered about Brad’s fierce protectiveness of Amy. We know he lost his daughter and now we know the how and why – She was caught in the crossfire of a robbery gone wrong and Brad blames himself. So like any good dad, he takes matters into his own hands and murders the guy who murders his kid. Yikes.

We also learn why Amy is so fiercely protective of her book. On the day of her mother’s overdose, she and her mother got into a fight. Amy is left feeling like she caused her mother’s death. There’s a beautiful moment of closure that I wish we could all use for our regrets, thanks to the virus. Guess it has some good uses.

Speaking of regrets, Richards is feeling some of those (with some help from Sykes) and heads out to find Brad and Lila, who have been kidnapped and are about to be murdered before he saves the day. It’s funny how long it takes these people to realize that all of this is a VERY BAD IDEA. After the world is becoming infected.

With only a few eps left, things are bound to pick up. Can’t wait to see what happens!

An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy—abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape—but he can’t stop society’s collapse. And as Amy walks alone, across miles and decades, into a future dark with violence and despair, she is filled with the mysterious and terrifying knowledge that only she has the power to save the ruined world.
