Blog Tour, Creative Post & Giveaway: Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows was just released this week & I am thrilled to be a part of the blog tour! You will find all the book information, book trailer, my creative post, as well as a tour-wide giveaway.

My post content isn’t the most chipper topic, but it’s an important topic, about women who were imprisoned because they were fighting for change.

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows

Category: Young Adult, Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon, B&N, TBD

Mira Minkoba is the Hopebearer. Since the day she was born, she’s been told she’s special. Important. Perfect. She’s known across the Fallen Isles not just for her beauty, but for the Mira Treaty named after her, a peace agreement which united the seven islands against their enemies on the mainland.

But Mira has never felt as perfect as everyone says. She counts compulsively. She struggles with crippling anxiety. And she’s far too interested in dragons for a girl of her station.

Then Mira discovers an explosive secret that challenges everything she and the Treaty stand for. Betrayed by the very people she spent her life serving, Mira is sentenced to the Pit–the deadliest prison in the Fallen Isles. There, a cruel guard would do anything to discover the secret she would die to protect.

No longer beholden to those who betrayed her, Mira must learn to survive on her own and unearth the dark truths about the Fallen Isles–and herself–before her very world begins to collapse.

Women Imprisoned Fighting for Change:

Women are consistently on the forefront of social justice and many are imprisoned for their work. I have highlighted a few amazing women in history who, like Mira, were imprisoned.

Aung San Suu Kyi

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was an African-American Civil Rights activist who best known for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus. She was arrested for breaking the Alabama law that required black people to give up seats on public transportation to white people. Her arrest sparked a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system. It also led to a 1956 Supreme Court decision banning segregation on public transportation.

Susan Brownell Anthony

Susan B. Anthony, Public Domain

Susan Brownell Anthony is an American social reformer and feminist who played a pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement. They fought for equal rights for both women and African Americans. She was arrested and convicted in 1872 for voting. Susan B. also refused to pay the fine and eventually in 1878 presented congress with the amendment to allow women to vote. It became the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.

Angela Davis at UCLA in October 1969; By GeorgeLouis

Angela Davis

Angela Davis is an African American feminist and a social justice warrior. In the 1960s she was a critical member of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1970 she was imprisoned for conspiracy for purchasing firearms that later were involved in the armed take over of a Courtroom during a trial of two African American defendants. She was the third female placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. She spent 2 years imprisoned and many people came to her defense including John Lennon.  She was acquitted of her charges in 1972 by an all white jury. She considers herself an abolitionist and still works to dismantle the prison industrial complex.

By Denis Bochkarev – Denis Bochkarev at Red Square.

Pussy Riot

Pussy Riot is a feminist punk band from Russia (members of the band rotated to keep their anonymity). Two of whom were arrested in 2012 and charged without bail of hooliganism for protesting the Orthodox Church’s support of Vladimir Putin. They served 21 months in a penal colony. As an anonymous band they continue to fight for an anti-capitalist ideology as well as for feminist rights, LGBTQA+ rights, and opposition to the Russian government.
