Book Recommendations: I am Jane Doe
I know there is stigma, there is shame, there is fear, but it is also so important to know that I AM JANE DOE. As long as there have been men in power, woman have been at risk. At times like this when the movement on social media feels big and making waves, this awareness can come at the detriment to those trying to survive. But times like these are important so others can feel like they are a part of a really shitty club, visibility lets us know we are not alone, it wasn’t our fault, we were targeted. So many women, especially women of color and transwomen are fighting every single day to keep going. To stay safe, to stay alive, to be heard, to feel.
Since books are my escape and also my way of processing through rough times, i figured maybe a list would be helpful. Books are also so great to provide visibility, how sometimes just knowing how others, fictional or not, made it through SA, to live another day. Sometimes it is for revenge, sometimes you live for yourself, and sometimes it is just to find answers in a world that is so cruel. So I have gathered a short list of YA book recommendations for those who need to process through others words and experiences.

Recently I just finished a book that I had to add to the list as it was current and topical. Obviously my list is not exhaustive but I hope if you are looking for your next read, you might want to try one of these.
I have read a few of Justine Pucella Winan’s YA books, and being of the seasonal mood reader, I loaded up the newest release, Your Boyfriend Needs an Exorcist, I was definitely not aware, before I started it, of the feminist rage side plot. However, pleasantly surprised by it and then of course I found myself cheering for the “bear” the whole time along with other girls from the high school who had been wronged by some of the boys in town.
Winan’s books have all dealt with some serious topics, but they are grounded in humor as well as ‘something’ else, either neurodivergence, a murder mystery, or in this case a ghost possession and a side of feminism and gender identity.

Jennifer's Body meets The Weight of Blood in this horror-comedy about an evil spirit looking for a second chance at love and life.
Just because Schuyler is a bloodthirsty evil spirit doesn't mean she can't fall in love. Ever since Wren Castillo moved into the house Schuyler haunts, Schuyler has been crushing hard. But Wren has a boyfriend, Enzo, and he's the worst. Schuyler has no choice but to watch as Enzo treats Wren terribly-until she accidentally possesses him.
With Enzo's spirit nowhere to be found, Schuyler must pretend to be him until she can set things right. But Schuyler feels more at home in Enzo's body than she ever did in her own, and as she grows closer to his family and friends-including Wren-she starts to wonder if this could all be for keeps.
Maintaining a possession is harder than Schuyler expected, though, and it might just take some spilled blood to keep her new body going strong.Worse, it turns out she's not the only one interested in stealing Enzo's body. When another evil spirit threatens everyone Schuyler now holds dear, she must decide just how far she's willing to go to secure her second chance at love-and life.
