Books in the News: More YA Titles Coming to a Screen Near You

With the successes of The Hunger Games Series and Divergent it appears more studios are clamoring to get their hands on the rights to option more of our favorite books. Even with the disappointment of some book to movie adaptations (I’m looking at you Vampire Academy) it seems that Hollywood studios are still looking to milk the YA cash cow.

Here is a list of books that have been optioned or are currently in development by studios:

shadowShadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Dreamworks are set to Produce the film as of 2012, last info they had secured a writer in 2013

fithThe Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

This one is full steam ahead and look for it to be released in 2016, Chloe Grace Moretz will star as reported in 2014

daughterDaughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

There hasn’t been much news since 2013 when a director was announced and then last fall when Taylor told the press she had done a re-draft of the screenplay. This is an interesting book and I’d love to see how it translates to the screen.

emberAn Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

This YA book won’t even be released until April 28th of this year but it has already been optioned by Paramount!

fallenFallen by Lauren Kate

I wasn’t aware that this one was being made into a movie, but it’s already finished filming, and is set to release sometime this year. Take a peek at the cast here

  1. I didn’t know An Ember in the Ashes had already been optioned! That’s awesome, I can’t wait to read it! I’m really excited about The 5th Wave, and Shadow and Bone too!
