Okay, the concept alone had me: a near-future world where you can hire someone to wear your body and handle whatever you don’t want to deal with. A body valet. They take the dress fitting. They get the tattoo. They do the thing.

Eighteen-year-old Tamsin makes her living as one of these valets, and she’s also a thief, so she tends to find ways to profit from her time in other people’s skin. When global pop star Lux Aeterna hires her, Tamsin’s expecting a big payday. What she gets instead is a kidnapping gone sideways, a conspiracy with corporate fingerprints all over it, and herself trapped in Lux’s body while Lux is stuck in hers. They’re going to have to figure out how to trust each other from the inside out.

The Tale of the Body Valet releases April 20th, 2027, and we are so excited to be part of the cover reveal today. Look at this beautiful thing. The art is by Sara Lee (@sblarts)…the split-face treatment, the pop-pink, the candy and lipstick and little bloody teeth scattered around the edges.

Alison also gave us the best prompt to go along with the reveal: if you could hire a body valet, what would you have them do?

For me? Handle my social calendar. I have too many things, too many people I love, and not enough hours. The networking happy hour where I don’t know anyone? That’s what valets are for. I’m staying in their body to read or catch up on blogging LOL

What would yours do?

In a near-future where you can hire someone to wear your body and perform tasks for you, eighteen-year-old Tamsin scratches out a living as one such “body valet.” A thief and con artist, she seeks ways to profit off her time in her clients’ bodies.

When global pop icon Lux Aeterna hires her, Tamsin thinks she’s struck gold. But then a kidnapping goes wrong, and Tamsin finds herself trapped in Lux’s body, held for ransom in the middle of the desert. And the voice in her head? That’s Lux herself, wearing Tamsin’s stolen skin.

What begins as a botched crime spirals into a conspiracy of kidnappers, corporate vultures, and a pop star willing to risk everything to help her fans…even if it means sacrificing herself. Together, Tamsin and Lux discover that saving each other might be the only way to save themselves.
