Feature: Missed Connections – What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera

What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera has the best meet cute I have ever read! It was so fabulous…but the next part of the story really resonated with me and Christy. Arthur was told to make a Missed Connections post on Craigslist…however he goes one step further (for reasons). So Christy and I thought we would share a little bit about how Craigslist influenced our love lives! We both really enjoyed this sweet, hilarious, romance filled story, with the right amount of angst and sweetness, and all the pop culture you want!

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

Christy’s Craigslist Love Story

In 2013, I desperately wanted to go to BFD, an alternative festival here, but I didn’t want to drive all the way to the Bay Area and hang out alone. So I thought what better than to post on CraigsList and see if there was anyone else going. The night before, I was coloring my best friend’s hair at midnight and she says to me, so are you going to that show tomorrow? I said, unless a miracle happens and someone messages me between now and when I wake up in the morning, lol – no.

Well.

I woke up at 7 the next morning and guess what was in my inbox?

I immediately started texting my friends – do I go? What the heck should I do? I really wanted to see Jimmy Eat World and didn’t have tickets myself so I said why not.

Literally.

But it turns out I wasn’t alone.

But I guess it turned out ok. I taught him that Undone is, in fact, a song by WEEZER.

And, friends, he did not go to that meeting.

Kelly’s Missed Connection

Back in the old days, we had this thing called newspapers, and my metropolitan area had it’s own weekly paper (two actually), and I would pick it up for the best two pages ever printed…the Missed Connections. I was obsessed with reading them, and eventually my entire collective house would sit down and read them out loud to one another. It was a weekly tradition. Then one day one of the roommates, came home and couldn’t stop talking about this girl that she kept seeing in the co-op. So we all decided to write up a missed connection for her in hopes to springboard them to possibly meeting up. Well no one responded, but it is what it is. Sometimes the wrong people are reading the missed connections, and sometimes the right people are…it’s up to the universe to bring them together.
