Isabelle Oster has dreamed of being a prima ballerina her entire life, so when the only male dancer backs out of the fall production, she’s devastated. Without a partner, she has no hope of earning a spot with the prestigious Ballet Americana company. Until hot jock Garret practicing stretches in one of the studios gives Izzy an idea, and she whips out her phone. But does she really want this badly enough to resort to blackmail?

All-state tight end Garret Mitchell will do anything to get a college football scholarship. Even taking ballet, which surprisingly isn’t so bad, because it means he gets to be up close and personal with the gorgeous Goth girl Izzy while learning moves to increase his flexibility. But Izzy needs him to perform with her for the Ballet Americana spot, and he draws the line at getting on stage. Especially wearing tights.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a bit of blackmail, a lot of sarcasm, and an ending guaranteed to melt your heart.

Can you tell our readers about a HS experience that inspired your writing?

My dad was a high school football coach during the first ten years of my life, so not only do I know a lot about the game, but I’m also a big fan. If you’ve ever seen the movie Remember the Titans, think of me as the know-it-all daughter of the defensive coach. When I was a sophomore in high school, our football team, the Kenston Bombers, made it into the playoffs. It was quite a feat and unexpected.

It was, and actually still is, a relatively small public school in a suburb on the East side of Cleveland, Ohio. Normally the private schools were the ones that dominated the playoffs, so no one expected our team to get far. That is until they won their first playoff game and made it to regionals. Then they won the next game and made it to state.

Most of our town made the drive down to Columbus to watch the the championship game, which was held in the Buckeye’s stadium at Ohio State University. It was huge. Everyone from our town barely filled one small section of that massive stadium. Our opponent was the Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education. Unfortunately, after a well fought battle, we lost the championship game by one point. Each team had scored one touchdown, but our team missed the extra point and the other team did not. Just to rub salt into the wound, the headline in the local paper the next week was, “Oh, that Extra Point!”

It was disappointing not to end our fairy-tale season with a win, but nevertheless, it was one of the most exciting things that happened during my high school years. I still remember the excitement and apprehension watching each play and wishing and hoping that our team would win. I also remember silently cheering for a certain boy who had no idea I was crushing on him. I hope all the feels I remember from back then are represented in Offsetting Penalties, and in Izzy and Garret’s thoughts and actions.

Of course, Offsetting Penalties ends before readers find out whether they even make it to the playoffs, so you’ll have to wait to find out how their season ends.

I don’t think I read a lot of sports romances. But ballet is definitely a sport. Just think about all the foot injuries people get, by standing on their toes and using them to support their weight.
