Today, we are sharing our review for Friction, the 4th book in the Frenzy series by Casey L. Bond! I love this series, and was so grateful to receive an ARC from the author for my honest review.  I constantly tell everyone I know to read this series and I even got Kelly hooked! Hope you will check it out too!

If you are new to the series, my review for book 4 below does contain some spoilers of past events from the first 3 books, so beware.

A cure has been found for both the Infection and Vampirism, and Porschia Grant must take this news out of the colony. Between her friends volunteering to go with her and a well-planned route, the first journey should be easy. But when they make it to Mountainside, things are strange. The people are frightened of female night-walkers and won’t say why.

When the excursion takes a wrong turn, Porschia’s friends make a decision that will impact the rest of their lives. They expect to save Porschia from the evil contained in The Manor; they don’t expect to have to save her from herself.

When everything goes wrong, who will be left to pick up the pieces and save Ford from a threat no one could have seen coming?

What will happen when they risk everything to save one?

Review:

*Slight spoilers from previous books in the series

[book rating=4/5]

Friction is the fourth book in Casey L. Bond’s Frenzy series, and in this installment, which picks up immediately were Frequency ended, Porschia and her gang decide to venture out beyond their hometown compound. They don’t know much about what lies beyond, but they know they have to tell anyone out there about the cure.

I love Casey, and I love these characters. Friction wasn’t my favorite book in the series. I found the pacing too rushed and confusing, and I was a little confused about the timeline of certain events (which might be because I received an ARC copy that hadn’t been corrected).

The biggest obstacle for me in this book was Porschia. In Friction, Porschia is very angry about the events that happened at the end of Frequency (book 3), and she’s quite honestly a bit of a hot mess; she’s in a rage one second, okay the next, crying after that,  pushing boundaries with Tage after she’s done crying. She’s (metaphorically) biting off one person’s head, then numbly saving another person. There seemed to be no depth to her other than anger, petulance, and numbness. And perhaps that was the point; she has gone through major traumas, after all.

That being said, there were many things that I loved. Namely, Tage. Only Tage could call someone “kitten” and be sexy doing it. And after Tage, Roman. I love snarky, sexy characters, and Casey writes the hell out of these guys. It’s amazing to me that my two favorite characters are the two who started off as the absolute most wretched in the series. What a testament to Casey’s skills!

Casey is also an amazing world-builder and I can always effortlessly get lost in the worlds she creates, whether I want to or not (the moat around The Manor? Ewww! Deliciously disgusting!). I love that we got to see a glimpse of the world beyond Porschia’s hometown, and I hope that we can see more of it in the next book. I also hope we get to see more of the new characters Casey introduced, because I really enjoyed Garreth.

I’m really looking forward to the final serial to see how everything wraps up. I can’t wait to see if Porschia can find some forgiveness for herself and everyone around her, and allow herself to have the happiness she deserves. With Tage. She has to find the happiness with Tage. Okay, Casey? Okay, good.
