Blog Tour & Feature: Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka releases at the end of May, but I am thrilled to get you excited about this new release and to be a part of the blog tour! Be sure to check the blog tour schedule at the bottom of the post for more stops and more fun! For my post I am going to regale you all with my recommendations for Shakespeare inspired re-tellings/inspirations. In case you were unaware, Always Never Yours, features Megan who has been cast as Juliet in her theater production of Romeo & Juliet, and the entire novel is overly inspired by Shakespeare!

Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Category: Young Adult, Contemporary Romance
Publication: May 22nd, 2018; Speak
Purchase: Amazon, Book Depository

Megan Harper is the girl before. All her exes find their one true love right after dating her. It’s not a curse or anything, it’s just the way things are, and Megan refuses to waste time feeling sorry for herself. Instead, she focuses on pursuing her next fling, directing theatre, and fulfilling her dream school’s acting requirement in the smallest role possible.

But her plans quickly crumble when she’s cast as none other than Juliet–yes, that Juliet–in her high school’s production. It’s a nightmare. No–a disaster. Megan’s not an actress and she’s certainly not a Juliet. Then she meets Owen Okita, an aspiring playwright who agrees to help Megan catch the eye of a sexy stagehand in exchange for help writing his new script.

Between rehearsals and contending with her divided family, Megan begins to notice Owen–thoughtful, unconventional, and utterly unlike her exes, and wonders: shouldn’t a girl get to play the lead in her own love story?

Shakespeare Re-tellings/Inspiration Recommendations:

Let’s just start off with the best Romeo and Juliet re-telling ever made…yes I am talking about the 1996 Romeo + Juliet movie directed by Baz Luhrmann, starring my two biggest teenage crushes, Claire Danes & Leonardo DiCaprio. No seriously…the BEST (don’t even @ me on this, I will sink on this ship). Let me help you get lost in the epicness with lots of gifs & kissing!

YA Shakespeare Re-telling Recommendations:

Now that we are all in this beautifully tragic mind space, how about some book recommendations?!

Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston – This book is a feminist book about sexual assault, based on The Winter’s Tale. I loved this book, and it’s strong, brave female lead who can impart hope for other survivors. Goodreads | Amazon

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion – This is very much a subverted Romeo and Juliet inspired tale, and the main characters share those names as well, although, Romeo has reanimated from the dead, and can’t remember his name just goes by “R.” My favorite part of this book was all the nostalgia R had for the things that made him feel more human. Gah so good, and surprisingly melancholy. Goodreads | Amazon

Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George – This is inspired by Much Ado About Nothing, where six teenager’s lives intersect during one summer full of romance and some possible danger. Full of jazz, gangsters, and speakeasies! Goodreads | Amazon

Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub – Another R & J inspired but this time the story continues after both Romeo and Juliet are dead. How will the Capulets & Montagues fair after their children have fallen in love and died for each other? Goodreads | Amazon

As I Descended by Robin Talley – Southern boarding school lesbians as the lead roles of Macbeth…do you need more reasons to read this re-telling? Goodreads | Amazon

Saving Hamlet by Molly Booth – Another theater based story where the stage manager ends up travelling through time when she falls through the stage trap door! Goodreads | Amazon

The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You by Lily Anderson – Another Much Ado About Nothing re-telling, but this modern tale is full of nerdom and private school shenanigans! Goodreads | Amazon

Author Bios: Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Raised by a school librarian, Austin’s always had a passion for books, especially books for young people. He met and fell in love with Emily in high school and went to Harvard University for undergrad. He studied English (focusing on Shakespeare) and graduated magna cum laude in 2014. Recently, Austin worked as a journalist for The Hollywood Reporter and was a UCLA law student; however there’s nothing he he loves like writing with Emily.

Emily, whose parents are screenwriters, has loved writing and story-telling since an age she hardly remembers. Since meeting Austin (she says it was middle school–accounts vary), Emily attended Princeton University for undergrad, studied psychology, and graduated magna cum laude in 2014. While at Princeton, she wrote the first novel in her self-published YA fantasy trilogy, The Last Oracle, which was featured in USA Today and was a finalist for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
