Feature & Giveaway: Blog Goals Six Month Check In

How has it been over six months already? 2019 has felt so slow yet it’s already half over?! Christy and I are going to do our Blog Goals Six Month Check In so we can hold ourselves accountable for the 2nd half of the year. You can find our original 2019 Blog Goals here.

We are also hosting a giveaway with a bunch of books we love and want to share and promote these favorites! So be sure to leave a comment!

Kelly’s Blog Goals Check In

  1. Goodreads reading challenge goal of 120 books.
As of writing this post I have read 74 books and I am just a tad ahead of schedule! Did I wish I was like 25 books ahead…well yes I do, but I will be happy if I read like 10 over my goal.

  2. Beat the Backlist challenge and read 30% of all books read.
I have read 38 books that were released prior to 2019, out of my goal of 30% aka 40 books out of the 120. So crushing this goal!

  3. Read more of the things I want, more diverse, more branching out. Will try the A-Z challenge & maybe a varied genre challenge.
OK, I have no idea if I am reading more diversely or trying new genres. But I feel like I am reading more of what I want, and I am turning down reviews left and right, and I feel fine about it. My A-Z challenge has been left hanging by like February 1st, I can probably assign some books I’ve read since to it.

  4. Instagram better. Be better at taking more pics ahead of time, try more photo challenges consistently. More commenting/liking building friends. More stories!
I FAIL. I have posted 160xs this year so that about 5posts week on average. I almost never take photos in advance, and I am terrible at challenges. So room for improvement.

  5. Buy less everything!
I want to say I am buying less…but I am also accepting plenty of free books so maybe this is fine but I am probably failing.

  6. Review more!
I FAIL. AKA lots of room for improvement.

  7. Track my bookish life better. Journaling, spreadsheets, apps. Whatever it takes.
HAHAHAHAHA this didn’t happen, and I still desperately want to do this though…how can I make time.

  8. Fix old reviews on blog so they populate in review listing.
I have done this a few times, but I also found other problems that I had to fix too, so yeah lots of fixing old posts, and still no real dent in the last 6 years worth of review posts.

  9. Enjoy the blog & blogging. Have fun with it!
Other than being super late in some of my recap posts, or not doing them at all, I really am loving our blog this year. I think both Christy and I create fun content and enjoy our making our posts (unless it is me doing reviews). I am so happy to bring in extra reviewers, because you can never have enough reviews, and I hope that alleviates some stress from my shoulders since I hate reviewing.

Christy’s Blog Goals Check In

Read 200 books – I have historically read more but thought this year I might read less. Guess that’s not true! Doing good with this year’s challenge.

2019 Reading Challenge

2019 Reading Challenge
Christy has read 168 books toward her goal of 200 books.

Be an active participant in Beat the Backlist – I’ve changed this goal to just read more backlist titles (and books on my shelves) and I think I’m doing pretty good with that, too! 78 of my 170 (45%) are books that released before this year.

The Disappearance of Sloane Sullivan
it was amazing
I thought I knew where this was going and then I didn’t and OMG SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS! RTC!

All Out: The No-Longer-Secret Stories of Queer Teens throughout the Ages
really liked it
I think Elliot Wake’s and Anna-Marie McLemore’s stories were my favs!

Let's Talk About Love
really liked it
I love that this book exists. You spend quite a bit of time in Alice’s head, focusing on her perspective. It’s still a Swoon Reads book and therefore a romance – and that’s what makes it perfect!

Because You'll Never Meet Me
it was amazing
This was an unexpected amazing read that’s unique!

As I Descended
Tried this one twice and it just never grabbed me.

Review the books I love and shout about them more – I’ve definitely done better with reviews this year but not as good as I realistically want to be. There’s work to be done here.

Be more choosy in the books I accept and buy – I am definitely buying less, mostly thanks to Kelly talking me out of them.

Use the library more – I check for audio at the library and wait for books rather than buying them. I still don’t use the library for ebooks often because I don’t want to borrow them and then not read them.

Start or join a cookbook club – I started a cookbook club! We meet monthly and every month it grows. I’ve learned new recipes and cook more often!

Keep up on twice monthly Comic Crush posts – I’ve done 9 posts total this year, not quite twice a month. I did simplify the posts to make it easier to get the post done. It still remains a fav.

I have been going back to books I missed out reading when they were first published–just finished The Black Witch (library love) last night. I always enjoy your posts, especially the new release day lists so I can grow my mountainous TBR.

I love to read! We now have a library about a mile from our house. We go there all the time. I really enjoy your post. I read them all.

  4. Good job on your goals, friends! You have accomplished so much this year and it is only half way through! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for Bookcrushin’ and the two of you! Thanks so much for sharing.
