#SBS February Monthly Wrap-Up

Welcome to our monthly feature where we talk about what we read, adopted into our libraries, and what’s on our minds. After hosting #SignedBookSundays on instagram for 4+ years, we are transitioning to this format as a way to share signed books and talk about bookish (and personal) highlights. Join us the last Sunday or last day of every month (or whatever day today is…we are busy!)!

In Case You Missed It

  • Giveaway for The Tea Dragon Tapestry by K. O’Neill in partnership with Oni Press! (ends 2/28/22)
  • Review of The One True Me & You by Remi K. England – a favorite read of 2022 so far!
  • The where to buy signed books page has been updated to 2022, and I have found as many March YA releases I could find – of course I keep adding more and more when I find them…check it out!
  • We curate a Bookshop page with most of the YA New Releases – please consider supporting us by buying books through our links or shop, or we have a Ko-Fi!

What We Read

Kelly: I read 6 books in February. Not as good as Janurary at 8 books, but I will accept this as I am ahead on my year long challenge. The standouts were:

  • Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake – adult sapphic romance (hawt!) that just had everything I needed right now while I was in a tiny slump.
  • The Heartbreak Bakery by A.R. Capetta – mini-review – queer and angsty and just full of bakery loveliness.

Christy: February flew by and was so busy I barely had time to finish any books!

  • The Kindred by Alechia Dow – I’ve been waiting for Alechia’s next story since I became obsessed with The Sound of Stars! This dual narrated love story is not to be missed!

I did read a couple of books from my list last month! Woot! Some are still on my TBR as per the usual – bookworm problems am I right?

  • Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth
  • The Chandler Legacies by Abdi Nazemian
  • Bitter by Akwaeke Emezi
  • Mirror Girls by Kelly McWilliams

Christy’s TBR

I have a spring break in March but I am not hopeful I will get any reading done. But, here’s hoping!

  • Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
  • Horror Hotel by Victoria Fulton and Faith McClaren

On the Top of Our Minds

Kelly: I wrote another book review this month – who even am I? Hahaha but seriously, my weird anxiety issues definitely manifest in the ways when I am writing a review, that make me feel like I am unintelligent, can’t convey my feelings into words, and pressure of people reading it and thinking I am a jackass. Anyone else, or just me?

Still watching more tv than reading books, lately it’s been Star Wars & Marvel shows on Disney+ that I am catching up on…

Christy: I blinked and it’s March? I’ve been buried deep in school and work so reading has taken a big backstep! I’m crawling towards the end of my Master’s – Just 10 weeks to go!!! Then I can take a breath and have my free time back (right as I go into triathlon training season).

Some of the things I am most proud of this month:

  • Authoring a white paper on a model to serve families and children impacted by substance use disorder
  • Crushing two of my final classes in my MPA
  • Finishing my Princess training cycle stronger than ever – and running 22.4 miles in 3 days!
